Tauranga Diwali Festival

Experience a joyful culturally rich and vibrant Festival of Lights with your whanau and friends!

Diwali 2026 - One community, many cultures.
Welcome to a celebration where hearts unite beyond caste, creed, and division.

Step into the fascinating shadows of the ancient Diwali culture, where the Historic Village trees have been keeping a beautiful secret. You are invited to wander the magical Tauranga Diwali Festival as curious adventurers to discover how deeply we are all connected to the unseen rhythms of the earth and divinity.

We envision this year's Diwali celebration as a sanctuary woven from kindness and respect, where knowledge and passions of all Arts are passed down freely, and each laugh is shared in the warmth of friendship.

Step into the dance, let your guard down, and become a living thread in this beautiful ecosystem of connection of souls and Divinity.

Thanks to Echo Photography for this brilliant Diwali 2025 reel.

Tauranga Library RANGOLI flash mob, and dance workshop. For everybody!
How lovely is this spring weather and today was just perfect for a rangoli art creation at the Greerton Library. A bunch of people got together this morning, enjoying the energy of the sun and imbibing the uplifting energy of dance and art!
We have been dreaming of getting among our community and sharing the ancient art of rangoli, creating auspicious patterns with chalk and rice flour on the pavement. We also had a dance workshop which left all participanets amazed - we had some such a great time and laughter together.

See you on 7 November at the Historic Village for more rangoli, dance and much, much more.

The Diwali family of supporters.
Each new year we’re blessed to have a team of amazing people who support the festival by becoming a funder or sponsor. Some of them have been part of almost every one of our Diwali events. We treasure each one of our supporters as they help us bring our community together to party, contribute, smile and relax.
It’s not possible to fully recreate what it feels like to be at the Tauranga Diwali festival but here is another video which will give you an idea of the pure joy and fun we experience each year.
Below is our A team.. as they help us give back to all those who are in any way involved in this magnificent Diwali festival. Please make no mistake that we take any of the funders', sponsors' or anyone's contributions for granted. We have been very lucky as to have so much support on this journey:

Tauranga City Council, Western Bay of Plenty District Council, Acorn Foundation - encouraging giving for the Western BOP, Manawa Trust (former TECT), BayTrust, Pub Charity Limited, One Foundation Limited, Grassroots Trust, Creative Bay of Plenty - Te Waka Auaha Toi, .hapori_community.matters (Lottery Fund and Cogs), Hume Pack-N-Cool Ltd, Apata group, Seeka, Toi Ohomai, Westpac NZ, Ray White Greerton, DH Tauranga and Trevelyan's Pack and Cool Ltd.

Rāmā Nritha Vihār gallery. We'd seen some of these young talented dancers at previous Diwali events and other shows, and long admired them for their beautiful compositions which make you feel like you were right in the land of story telling and devotion.
This is a sublime taste of the children of our community – their passion, the clever art, the joyful expressions on people’s faces watching. Please come and see for yourself on 7 November what this group has to offer.

TAURANGA DIWALI 2026 - A LOVE OF DANCE - a big celebration in the Historic Village.

Our love for amazing dance floor experiences and heartfelt dance & kirtan-offerings and the memorable moments that result are the core to the creation of the Tauranga Diwali Festival.
Mantra music and dance floors bring people together in ways that transcend listening to music. Dancing and singing are rare activities where people can express individuality in a collective setting. It is one of human-kind’s original wellness activities and something, when linked with divine sounds and devotion, we must not stop celebrating.

Our huge line-up of heartfelt and breathtaking performances will be a chance for you to dance, laugh and sing, together remember a feeling of empowering connection with our fellow human beings, and Divinity.

Bring enough cash, a cosy blanket or chair to sit on, your own cup and plate or use our The Make Waste History Charity foodware, and rally together heaps of people who you want to spend an epic day out with!

YOU’RE INVITED TO THIS CELEBRATION.
- Love from the TGA Diwali Festival team

For the love of Diwali and devotion to Divinity: the Sri Sita Rama Lakshman and Hanuman actors will have your heart racing when they walk through the crowd, and the Bhangra beats will have your feet-stomping. The Historic Village Green will become a dance floor with supreme energy through vibrant performances.
Let's get together for a special community gathering with some brilliant entertainment and moments of peace and serenity. Be part of the Diwali festival family! Don't miss the date: Saturday 7 November from 2 - 9 pm.

CELEBRATING AT THE VILLAGE. Celebrating Diwali on 7 November this year will be a unique experience. The Historic Village will come to light once more and we will put a lot of effort into making your Diwali at the Village really awesome.
This is part 2 of our friend Chanchal's Diwali 2019 album. Each new year we’re blessed to have a team of amazing people who capture the festival in photos or video. This album is about our community that comes together for Diwali to celebrate, contribute, smile and relax. Chanchal captured many magic moments from the most high energy to the most peaceful.

DIWALI GALLERY: 2019 part 1. We're back with the first collection of teasers from photographer Chanchal's masterful gallery from the TGA Diwali Festival 2019, where it all started. We keep finding more photos that stand out which we have to share with you. From the crowd and local performers to daytime dance floor vibe, to late night diya lighting and more high energy movements.
We highly recommend checking out this year's Diwali Festival. Surely you'll find your fav spot in the crowd.
