Fungi Fest NZ kicks off this weekend! Yep, you read that right, THIS WEEKEND.

We're starting strong with the amazing David Whyte from the Fungal Network of New Zealand joining us 🎉

On Saturday he will be doing a talk at Basestation that will include a hot drink and only costs $10! + you will get a FREE FFNZ mushroom measuring tool (usually $5ea) to help with scale in your iNaturalist uploads 🍄‍🟫
- Shout out to Basestation for sponsoring us use of their venue! Legends!!

Then David will be leading 2 walks (to try to fit you all in!) on Sunday out at McLaren Falls, 10:30am and 1pm - Koha/donation.

If you are looking for something more creative to do, Affixed NZ will be running a DIY Mushroom patches workshop on Saturday at Turning Point Trust - Koha/donation.
- Shout out to Turning Point Trust : Te Taiope Huringanui for letting us use their space - they do such awesome mahi/work!

And it's official, Fungi Fest NZ is returning for 2026! The festival will run from Friday 5th June to Sunday 5th July - thats not far away at all! So we will be updating you on the full list of events over the next couple of days and providing booking links.

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who donated to our Give-a-little page, shared it with others and to our amazing new business sponsors who helped us get over the line! We'll tell you all about them in days to come. You are all legends!

We have 23 events lined up over 5 weekends so there will be lots to choose from. Watch this space...

Did you know that we are a 100% volunteer run charity?
- All of the planning, organising and event facilitation - many, many hours of hard mahi/work, and we don't get paid for any of it.

So why do we do it?
- Because we believe in the importance and power of an educated and connected hapori/community and we want to do our part to help make that our reality.

We might not be able to pay our amazing team of volunteers but with over 2000 volunteer hours logged, we want to do everything we can to manaaki/protect them while they give their time to our hapori/community. So we need insurance - we can't do anything without it. It also allows us to hire spaces to run our events, which is a pretty important.

With only 1 day left on our Give-a-Little campaign, and quite a bit left to raise, we really need your tautāwhi/support! https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/fungi-fest-nz-2026
