Mark Smith, RiP…'Kua hinga te totara i Te Waonui a Tane. A totara has fallen in the great forest of Tane'...Smitty was part of a 2nd wave of vollie-driven trail builds in the early 2000s with Be Rude Not To…a stealth build that would become legendary. It actually prompted a Rotorua Mountain Bike Club initiative to approve new builds. ;)
Mark has endured health issues that would’ve defeated most of us. One of the things that kept him going - physically, emotionally, spiritually, psychologically - was MTB.
Back in 2024 his eBike got stolen…Our community rallied round and raised $8.8K for a replacement. Tak + Tuhua Mutu at Mountain Bike Rotorua + Giant Bicycles New Zealand + Gaz at Nzo came to the party and Mark got a couple more years on the trails he loved…

RIP Charlie Cunningham, one of the original gang, friend of AusMusMTB and relentless innovator and inventor. We all likely rode at least one of the many designs he came up with (under different brands). Charlie put up a long fight and thoughts are with all those that have supported him so closely in the last years.
