There are so many wonderful people and organisations sharing and teaching different skills within the community. Come along to Back to Basics THIS SATURDAY to meet many of them!

KNIVE SHARPENING BY MORRIS
You can see how Morris sharpens knives! Bring your knife along if you’d like to get it sharpened *

* knives must be able to be carried safely. Use a knife case, or wrap in a teatowel and keep secured. If there are a large number of people wanting knives sharpened there may not be enough time to do them all

Sonia of Urban Self Sufficiency NZ will be showing and talking about how you can live more self sufficiently right where you are on your regular sized section.

Time Bank Waimakariri - members will be showing their sewing, mending, darning, upcycling and refashioning skills. These are just a taster of some of the skills TBW members have!

Waimakariri Bike Project - learn more about the importance of sustainable transport in our community, interested in learning about what they do, curious about bike mechanics, or simply want to lend a hand in fixing up bikes, make sure you visit their stall at Back to Basics!

Waimakariri Libraries will be displaying some of their new Tinkerzone tech and the resources they have available in their libraries. Come see their stand to learn more about what they have on offer.

Kaiapoi Food Forest - kai is in our name - learn from Kaiapoi Food Forest about how to grow plants and trees together, and be inspired to take what you have learnt to create a food forest in your own backyard or join forces with your community to sow the seeds of change together.

Food Secure North Canterbury - (FSNC) is a collaborative initiative addressing food security challenges through partnerships with various organisations, including Satisfy Food Rescue, Kaiapoi Food Forest, Oxford Community Trust, Kaiapoi Community Support, Community Wellbeing North Canterbury, Te Whatu Ora, Connect Hurunui, and both the Waimakariri and Hurunui District councils.

We are looking forward to having Re-purpose Pals at this year's Back to Basics.

Learn about the number of soft toys that go to landfill and how Re-Purpose Pals repurpose them to become puppets, weighted toys and other useful items.

If you have any stuffed toys that you wish to donate to this project please feel free to bring them along on the day.

Weighted blankets and kids toys are recommended for children with autism, ADHD, and other general anxiety disorders or trauma and sensory input special needs. These fantastic devices use their simple technology to provide relaxation, stimulation, focus boost, body awareness, and confidence to children who need it.
