The Realnz Whakatipu Legend

The Realnz Whakatipu Legend Join the legends of the lake. Swim Lake Whakatipu - Winter event July 11 - 2026 or sail on the TSS Steamship March 20 - 2027.

The Whakatipu series of swims incorporate 3 open water swim distances from 1km to 3.8km. For some its about challenging themselves against the clock. For most it will be about entering the waters of the Whakatipu for the first time. Feeling the anxiety as they slowly wade in, then the excitement of the cold water on there bodies and challenging themselves to complete the desired distance. Taking i

n the view on every breathe and enjoying the clear pure water of the southern alps. Water Temperature in March will be approx 15/16 degrees but it could on the low side be 15. All the swims finish at Queenstown Bay beach close to the Bathhouse restaurant.

At present, it’s looking like a classic winters day for our winter edition of the Whakatipu Legend. Blue skies, snow capped mountains, calm winds and cold air temperatures. The 9 degree water temperature may feel like a welcome relief with an expected high of 5 degrees 🥶

Colour, cold and clear blue skies. Southern Lakes Swimming Club on there weekly Saturday morning swim. Minus 4 temps makes the 9 degree water seem a relief at first. Perfect acclimation for our Whakatipu Legend Winter swim - 11th July.
