| University of Auckland Formula SAE Team takes #10 place in Formula Student Austria 2026!

Held annually at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, 58 student teams (38 electric and 20 combustion/hydrogen) from the around the world competed in a contest of design, build, test, and race of small formula-style race cars. Well done to the FSAE47 team for showcasing kiwi engineering excellence on the world stage!

One of our favourite stops on the floor at EMEX 2026 was the University of Auckland Formulae SAE exhibit. 🏎️

We sat down with Nikesh Nava and the team, who brought their hand-built open race car to the show. These are engineering students who have designed and manufactured a Formula-style race car entirely from scratch, applying what they learn in the classroom to something that actually gets on track and competes against universities from across the Asia-Pacific, Europe and the US.

EMEX exists to celebrate exactly this kind of homegrown innovation. Watching next-generation Kiwi engineers bring a working race car to a national trade show floor is a reminder of what this industry is capable of, and where it is heading.

A huge congratulations to Nikesh and the entire University of Auckland Formulae SAE team. The engineering, the dedication, and the sheer ambition behind a project like this is seriously impressive. We loved having you at EMEX 2026.

The industry is changing, and you're the reason why. Women are entering engineering fields in greater numbers every year, and the ones that are already here are leading, building, and innovating in ways this sector has never seen before.

On International Women in Engineering Day, we want to recognize and celebrate the incredible women across New Zealand's engineering, manufacturing, and technology sector.

At EMEX & SouthMACH, we get to see firsthand the talent, skill, and drive that women bring to this space. Those 1 in 7 are showing up, setting the standard, and shifting what this industry looks like for the next generation of engineers!

Yesterday evening, EMEX hosted the Advancing Manufacturing Aotearoa - AMA 2026 Minster for Manufacturing Awards with the Hon. Cameron Brewer; recognising excellence in Kiwi manufacturing. The awards night brought together innovators, future thinkers and manufacturers at the heart of a thriving sector.
