On we shine a spotlight on one of our planet’s most valuable yet often overlooked resources: soil. Healthy soil underpins resilient ecosystems, sustainable food systems, and the wellbeing of our communities.
This year’s theme “Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities” highlights the vital role soil plays in creating greener, more resilient urban environments. In cities, healthy soil regulates temperature, improves water infiltration to reduce flooding, supports urban agriculture, filters pollutants, and stores carbon to enhance air quality. But when soil is sealed beneath concrete and asphalt, these essential functions are lost — making cities more vulnerable to overheating, pollution, and extreme weather.
World Soil Day reminds us that creating thriving cities starts from the ground up. Everyone — planners, policymakers, developers, and communities — has a role in rethinking how we value and manage urban soils.
But how do we ensure soil health isn’t just a buzzword, but a measurable reality? Eurofins Agro is going beyond just talking about soil health — we measure it. With our scalable system, our soil experts provide actionable insights into the physical, biological, chemical, carbon capture, and contamination aspects of soil.
By doing so, we empower:
· Urban and industrial planners to improve soil sustainability
· Mitigate contamination risks
· Support greener, healthier urban spaces
· Enhance climate resilience through better land-use decisions
Healthy soils mean healthier crops, cleaner water, stronger biodiversity, and a better future for all. Together, we can drive the transition to sustainable soil stewardship and ensure that every stakeholder contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals ( ). Healthy soil is needed to achieve at least 8 of the 17 SDGs!
