Mount Maunganui College is proud to showcase our premier student ensembles at the BOI Jazz and Blues Festival. Our performance features two distinct acts: the MMC Street Band, performing a fun, New Orleans-style brass band take on modern popular music, and the MMC Jazz Combo, exploring a rich repertoire of classic jazz standards and modern jazz pieces. DEJABLUE

Deja Blue is from Hawke’s Bay with a repertoire selected from all niches of the wide Blues genre, catering to all tastes from Blues, RnB, to Soul/Rock. The band has been together for 9 years and is made up of a team of long-term Hawkes Bay musicians who have been playing in bands for most of their lives – locally, nationally and internationally. Featuring Adrienne Toner (lead vocals); Lennie Lawton (guitar and vocals); Steve Webb (bass); Carmel Lawry (keyboards/Hammond) and Ian Hamilton (drums and vocals). Deja Blue will be joined on stage by Criss Lawry on blues-harp. Deja Blue can’t wait to return to the Bay of Islands Jazz & Blues Festival!

LEX PISTOLS

Our latest reincarnation of Lex Pistols sees a mixture of familiar and newer talents: the powerhouse brass exponent Al McMillan rejoins us to strengthen the front line along with the dark horse which is Josh McKay.

Those two have musical dogfights that can't be missed - and can only be reined in slightly by the famous John Holmes on trumpet, who has been with the band for less than 40 years. We are very lucky to have Sally and Brett Lowe again on rhythm, along with the unique sound of Bryan Holden on ukelele bass. Carlos Palmer on clarinet (with a tiny bit of Tenor sax - and even more terrifying - maybe some trumpet this year) completes the mahem of New Orleans/trad jazz that we bring. The Lex Pistols love playing for Paihia Jazz and Blues fans - and as founding members of the festival will be enjoying ourselves even more in this special occasion.

Known for delivering "Blues Rock at its Dirty Best," The Dirty Tones have spent years cementing their status as powerhouse entertainers on the New Zealand blues live circuit. Bringing a whole river of party wherever they play, this high-energy outfit has earned global radio play and cracked the Top 10 of the Global Blues Artist chart, peaking at an impressive #4 with their hit single Can't Stop Drinkin' Blues.

The core line-up features Tony Bullen, Mark Hill, John Wilks, Shelley Martin and Sean Lurman.
