Tomorrow night! Violet Hirst & Michael Llewellyn present Spring Duet; playing Ophir Saturday 3rd October. Both original singer-songwriters, the duo will playfully share stories, songs and theatrics over the stage.
You may have seen her recently performing as the pseudo pop-star of Lady Gaga and Britney Spears; but tomorrow hear her own material. Born and raised in Tāhuna Queenstown, Violet's musical journey began the day she was born: opening night of her mother's musical Kitchens. Her songs and live performance embody the theatrics and ballads that surrounded her childhood. Quoted as one of Aotearoa’s “most quietly distinctive contemporary songwriters,” (13th Floor) she gains comparisons to Aldous Harding, Julia Jacklin and Jeff Buckley. Earning recognition on SRN and Radioscope scharts, Violet has received wide support from Vice, RNZ, Flying Nun and Rolling Stone. Combining layered vocal melodies with meditative rhythms and poignant lyrics from a young woman, Violet's songs showcase a unique artist at work.
Michael Llewellyn is a songwriter from Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Aotearoa, known for raw lyricism, magnetic live performances, and emotionally vivid storytelling. Drawing from indie rock n roll, alternative folk, and poetic balladry, his songs have earned support from RNZ, Rolling Stone AU/NZ, NZ Student Radio, and audiences across New Zealand. He has shared stages with Marlon Williams, The Veils, Fazerdaze, and French For Rabbits, and is currently preparing the release of his third studio album ‘Strange Horses’.
Door sales $25, or online from Under the Radar. Get on it and help support local music!

Here's some more detail on the Anzac Service in Ophir on Saturday.
There will be a parade which is a tradition, beginning at Pitches Store walking towards the Ophir Peace Memorial Hall. Led by horse riders then members from the Omakau Volunteer Fire Brigade, children from the local schools, Service Group members and general public who wish to march, the parade will leave Pitches at 9:45am.
The Service will be conducted outside the main doors of the Hall and will commence at 10:00am led by Mr. Nobby Clark. The official part of the service will include the raising of both the Australian and New Zealand flags with the national anthems and memorial tunes. Wreaths will be laid under the two flag poles. Following the official service everyone is invited to move into the Hall for a brief Anzac Day speech by our Guest Speaker. The school children have prepared posters remembering the Anzac soldiers and these will be placed around the walls.

Omakau and Ophir Anzac Service, be at the Ophir Hall by 9.30am Saturday to remember the sacrifices of those who served.
