♻️ Vendor Spotlight - Kathy's Upcycled Denim Bags 💙

One of the things I love about The Upcycled Market is seeing what talented makers can create from materials that might otherwise end up in landfill.

Kathy joined us a couple of markets ago with her beautifully handcrafted bags made from upcycled denim, and they've been a favourite ever since. I have one myself, have bought several as gifts, and they're always admired. They're practical, beautifully made and every one is unique.

New Zealand sends around 180,000 tonnes of clothing and textiles to landfill every year. Choosing upcycled products is a simple way to help reduce that waste while supporting local creativity.

Be sure to stop by Kathy's stall at our next market and see her gorgeous bags for yourself. You might just find your new favourite! 💚

Let's meet another new face - Meet Nola.
Nola is a hobby crafter who loves giving forgotten items a new lease of life, transforming them into unique pieces that can be enjoyed for years to come.

"I've enjoyed a wide range of creative hobbies throughout my life, from curing skins and spinning wool to making handmade treasures for my grown-up children and their families. More recently, I've been creating Christmas tree decorations and the occasional wall hanging using old jewellery, buttons and other reclaimed materials."

I came across this post and thought it was worth sharing with our community.

Many of us do our best to reduce the amount of plastic we use, but for the plastic we can't avoid, having a company like Future Post gives us a way to keep it out of landfill by turning it into something genuinely useful.

Sadly, Future Post has recently suffered a devastating fire that has put its operations under real pressure. While insurance will help, it won't cover everything, so they've launched a Givealittle page where you can sponsor a fence post with a $5 donation to help them get back on their feet.

If you're able to help, I'm sure it would be hugely appreciated. And if donating isn't possible, simply sharing their story could make a real difference.

Help Future Post recover from a devastating arson attack so we can continue turning NZ plastic waste into sustainable product not landfill.

Future Post, New Zealand's world-first manufacturer of recycled plastic fence posts, is fighting for its future after an arson attack caused more than $1 million in damage to our Waiuku facility.

Although the person responsible has been caught, the financial impact has left us in a critical cash flow crisis. Without immediate support, Future Post may be forced to close its doors.

For years, we've transformed New Zealand's waste plastic into durable, long-lasting fence posts, diverting millions of plastic bottles and soft plastics from landfill and giving them a second life. Our work also supports New Zealand's soft plastics recycling network, helping ensure the plastic collected at participating supermarkets continues to be recycled.

If Future Post closes, New Zealand loses more than a manufacturer. We lose local jobs, valuable recycling infrastructure, and an innovative circular economy solution that has taken years to build.

Every donation, large or small, will help us recover from this devastating event, protect local jobs, and keep plastic out of landfill.

Please help us get back on our feet and ensure this proudly New Zealand innovation continues for generations to come.

Yes, we had insurance, but this has only covered $186,000 of what we need to keep the doors open.

Use of funds:
Recovering from the arson attack, site clean-up, replacing destroyed stock, restoring operations, and covering lost revenue caused by damaged products. Every dollar helps us rebuild, protect local jobs, and keep New Zealand's plastic recycling moving.

We are delighted to welcome another new face to the next market!
Meet Deborah of DK Designs.

Deborah has had a love of fabric for many years and enjoys creating with treasures found in op shops, antique stores and garage sales. She is currently enjoying upcycling vintage lampshades, giving them a new lease of life and saving them from landfill.

Deborah is also an artist and creates fabric prints from her original artwork, which she turns into bespoke cushions using second-hand fabrics. Even beautiful scarves are given a second life as unique wall hangings.

Deborah is just one of the wonderful makers you'll meet at The Upcycled Market - Sunday 30th August. Come along, browse the stalls and discover one-of-a-kind treasures with a story to tell.
