Another familiar face returning to The Upcycled Market!

Some of you may recognise Rachel from previous markets, and we are delighted to welcome her back with The Sparkle Project. ✨

Rachel gives unwanted beads, odd earrings and broken jewellery a new lease of life, carefully dismantling and reusing the pieces to create beautiful new jewellery.

But The Sparkle Project is about more than recycling. The creations are gifted to local charities and community groups, helping spread a little sparkle to people who might need it most.

Come along to discover more about this wonderful community initiative and see how unwanted treasures can be transformed into something beautiful, all while giving back to others.

💚 Meet Christine from Annie’s Girl

We’re so pleased to welcome Christine back to The Upcycled Market! Christine has been with us since the early days, although she wasn’t able to join us at our last market, and we know she was missed.

Christine creates beautiful bags and purses from upcycled materials, turning them into unique and practical pieces that are lovely to use or give as gifts.

With Christmas slowly creeping closer, her gorgeous creations are well worth keeping in mind if you’re looking for something a little different and special for someone you love. 🎁

We’re delighted to have Christine joining us again and can’t wait for you to see what she has in store!

💚 Let’s start introducing some of the makers joining us at our next Upcycled Market!

And I thought we should start with Lenka of Toki Bite,s who has been part of this journey right from the very beginning.

When I was looking for a way to give a new life to a treasured piece of sentimental pottery that had broken in the post, I came across Lenka at our sister market, The Pretty Crafty Market in Richmond. She was creating beautiful toki and other pieces from old plates and ceramics.

I asked if she could create something special from my broken pottery, and she did. I was so grateful to have a new life given to what had been a very special 50th birthday gift. 💚

When I saw what Lenka was creating, I knew she would be just right for the new Upcycled Market. She was also one of the very first makers to say yes, helping me realise there really was a place for a market celebrating the creativity and possibilities of upcycling. ♻️

We’re so looking forward to welcoming Lenka back for our next market on Friday 20 November, along with lots of familiar faces and some new makers too.

I’m currently taking a little time out on holiday, so things have been a bit quieter here on the Upcycled Market page while I’ve been away.

Taking a little time out to appreciate the incredible beauty we have right here in Aotearoa. 💚

We’ve seen some absolutely breathtaking scenery on our travels, and it’s a lovely reminder of just how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful country.

It’s also a good reminder of why looking after our planet and giving things a second chance matters. ♻️

I’ll be back with you soon with more Upcycled Market news, but for now, here’s a little piece of the scenery we’ve been enjoying. 💚

The Upcycled Market - Friday 20th November - Twilight Edition! is shaping up to be another great event!

It’s lovely to have some of the original members who joined us when we first started coming back for another market, along with some new faces joining us too. There’s going to be another great mix of people bringing their wonderful upcycled creations along.

We can’t wait to see it all come together!

We love seeing so many local organisations working towards a more sustainable future, so we wanted to share this with our Nelson Tasman community.

The Nelson Tasman Climate Forum's 2026 Climate Action Festival is happening from 18–27th September, with a fantastic programme of events happening throughout the region.

From repair cafes and composting workshops to beach clean-ups, sustainable living, community gardens, films and talks, there are plenty of opportunities to connect, learn something new and be inspired by the people making a difference right here in our community.

We love that sustainability can take so many different forms, and that small actions, creative ideas and community connections all play a part and we're very happy to help spread the word about this wonderful programme.

♻️ Giving waste a second life

I came across this lovely story from Feilding and thought it was a perfect example of what upcycling is all about.

Black Rook Creations, a small creative business in Feilding, noticed how much waste was being created through their 3D printing. Rather than sending it to landfill, they started collecting their own waste, as well as waste from other local businesses, and finding a way to turn it into something useful.

The leftover PLA is sorted, shredded and pressed into new sheets, which are then used to create new products.

In just six months, they collected 91kg of 3D printing waste that would otherwise have gone to landfill. One of the things they have made from the repurposed material is personalised buttons for a local charity that makes clothing for babies. ❤️

It's a wonderful reminder that what we see as waste can sometimes just be a material waiting for a second chance.

And that's something we love about upcycling. Taking something old, unwanted or leftover and giving it a new purpose. 🌿

Less waste. More creativity. More second chances.
