Gun City and Fishing Open Fishing Competition 2025
Rules
• There must be a minimum of two people on each boat.
• All anglers on boats under 6 meters must be wearing life jackets.
• Navigation lights must be on if leaving in the dark.
• No fishing before 5am both days. Lines out at 8pm Saturday (weather dependent).
• No electric reels or longlines to be used.
• MPI rules apply to all fish sizes.
• Your boat must carry the minimum safety equipment – a life jacket for everyone on board, at least one fully charged cell phone in an airtight container, and a VHF radio.
• Everyone on board must be entered in this competition.
• You must log your trip report with coastguard on channel 01 before and after your trip. Early in the morning, this will be the national Coastguard. Then change to channel 62 for all correspondence with HBSFC and other boats.
• Boats may be able to stay out overnight, this will be weather dependent, and a call will be made by the HBSFC at briefing to allow this. Please ensure a representative from each boat is at the 6.30pm Safety Briefing. Skippers are responsible for the safety of their crew at all times. You must stay in a location where you are reachable by cell or VHF
• Seniors and Juniors are fishing for
o Snapper
o Gurnard
o Kingfish (minimum 750 mm)
o Trevally
o Blue cod
o Tarakihi
• All fish must weigh over 500 grams
• A $250 cash prize for heaviest fish in Snapper, Kingfish and Gurnard - Senior
• A $100 cash prize for heaviest fish in Snapper, Kingfish and Gurnard - Junior
• The weigh shed will be open from 12pm each day. Weigh in will close at 5pm Saturday, and final weigh 3pm Sunday (boat must be in the channel). Prize giving will be at 6pm Sunday. Safety Briefing 6:30pm Friday
