Do A Duathlon Series- Marton NZ

What an awesome few weeks it has been up at Tutaenui Reservoir. Across the four events we had **112 kids register** for the series, which is fantastic to see. Even better was the commitment shown by so many families, with **75 medals presented to competitors who took part in three or more events**. That’s a lot of young people getting active and giving duathlon a go!

A big thank you to David and Maureen Smith for once again generously allowing us to use their paddock for parking. Your support makes running these events so much easier.
Also a thanks to the Sport Whanganui team who showed up each week to marshal, very much appreciated.

Another highlight this year was the incredible use of the Rangitīkei District Council mountain bikes. Nearly every bike was out on course at times, and it was awesome to see how this initiative gave so many more kids the chance to participate who otherwise might not have had a bike available.

Seeing so many smiling faces, new riders gaining confidence, and kids encouraging each other has been the best part of the whole series.

Thanks everyone for making it such a success, we can’t wait to do it all again next season!** 🚴‍♂️🏃‍♀️🥇

It’s shaping up to be a scorcher this afternoon ☀️ Please make sure your kids come prepared with plenty of water, sun hats, and sunscreen so they can stay cool and enjoy the day.

We’re thrilled to have 112 duathletes ;) registered for our third event, and almost every bike is spoken for! That’s fantastic to see. It’s awesome that so many of you are taking the opportunity to get your kids active and involved in the incredible space up at the Tutaenui Reservoir.

A huge thank you to the Tutaenui Stream Restoration Project team for the amazing work you continue to do in creating and maintaining such a special environment for our community. We’re lucky to have it 🙌

The trail clearing fairies have been out doing a wonderful job last night and we are all go for tonight's Duathlon. The only change is we may have to shorten the course for the 11 and 12 year olds as at this stage we can't get right around the dams. See you all this afternoon!

What a fantastic way to kick off the Do a Duathlon Series 🌞🏃‍♀️🚴‍♂️

We were treated to sunshine, smiles, and plenty of sunscreen on our first night, and the energy was amazing from start to finish.

With 95 rangatahi registered, the vibe was absolutely awesome. The 5,6,7,8 year olds were very well represented. It would be great to see more 9-12year olds on the startline next week :)

A big thank you to everyone who came along and made the evening such a success. We cannot wait for the next three events in the series. Bring them on!

Here's a great article in the Whanganui Chronicle about our bikes in schools programme that we have running in the Rangitikei. This was born from the Do A Duathlon and seeing a need to teach more kids to be able to ride and have access to bikes:

Wow—what an incredible 2025 Do A Duathlon series it has been! We’ve loved every moment of putting on this event, and it’s been amazing to see 85 enthusiastic kids register and race across four action-packed events. The energy, excitement, and positive vibes have been off the charts! 🚀

It’s especially awesome to see so many 5-8 year olds getting involved—our future champions in the making! 💪🏅

The introduction of mountain bikes at each event has been a game-changer, making it easier for even more kids to take part.
