🚨 WINTER WORLDS SECTOR SIX IS HERE 🚨

Winter Worlds is kicking off early with something a little different.

Sector Six is a fast, short-course race out at Tai Tapu with a 5.5 km lap, mostly tarseal, and one 750m gravel sector each lap to keep everyone honest.

It’s not a gravel epic.
It’s not cyclocross.
It’s Winter Worlds with a gravel sting.

📅 Race 1: Sunday 7 June
📅 Race 2: Sunday 21 June
⏰ Start time: 2:00 pm
💰 Online entry: $25
💸 Same-day entry: $30
🏁 Points count towards the Winter Worlds points series

Grades:

🚴 Newbies – 3 laps
🚴 C Grade – 5 laps
🚴 B Grade – 8 laps
🚴 A Grade – 10 laps

Road bike? Gravel bike? Your call.
Good tyres? Sensible.
Good legs? Helpful.
Good excuses? Sadly already sold out.

A huge thanks to Hayden Roulston, who has come on board to support the series, with $800 prize money across the two races.

We need at least 50 riders to make this happen, so if you want something fresh, fast, and slightly questionable this winter, get entered early.

Three more sleeps until somebody earns one of these jerseys. 🔥👕🔥

Not bought.
Not gifted.
Earned.

In just a few days, someone will pull this on and the whole tour gets very real. Leaders’ jerseys, big efforts, tired legs, tactical racing, and a proper bit of Canterbury road racing theatre. 🚴‍♂️💨

The race manual is live now, so if you’re racing, supporting, or just having a nosy, go and give it a proper read here:
https://www.canterburytour.co.nz/race-manual

Our race briefing is being tidied up now and will be out shortly. All of our volunteers are being briefed over the next couple of days as everything starts locking into place. ✅

It’s happening.
The Epoch Tour is nearly here. ⏳🔥

Cold as a mortgage payment last night, but that didn’t stop 35 riders rolling up in good spirits for another cracking Tai Tapu TT.

It might’ve been a chilly one, but the riding certainly wasn’t.

At the sharp end, Will Pringle absolutely lit it up, taking the win in 21:04.2 at a humming 45.56km/h. That is properly moving. Shaun Brookes was flying home with the fastest return leg of the night to grab second in 22:06.0, and David Roache rounded out the podium with a strong 22:45.4.

The young fellas were right in the thick of it too, with Harrison Tapper and George Bishop both putting in classy rides to finish 4th and 5th overall. Not bad for a cold Tuesday night in Canterbury when most sensible people were probably parked in front of a heater.

The women were also right on the gas. Monique Brake was the first female home and a brilliant 6th overall in 23:43.8, which is seriously stout riding. Natasha Leask took second woman with a tidy 25:42.5, and Aimee Free was third woman in 26:07.3, just ahead of Eva Reed in another tight battle.

Plenty of tough, honest rides all through the field as well. That’s the beauty of these nights. Some are chasing the win, some are chasing PBs, and some are just trying not to freeze their bits off before the turn.

Awesome to see 35 riders out there backing the series and bringing good energy, even with the temperature doing its best to be uninviting.

No more “I’ll do one next week”…
No more watching from the sidelines…
This is your shot to pin a number on and see what you’ve got.

Conditions have been mint lately — fast road, honest effort, and just enough sting to remind you you’re alive.

Whether you’re chasing a PB, testing the legs, or just finally ticking it off… this is the night.

What a night for the Tai Tapu TT.
Warm, calm, and about as close to a perfect evening as Canterbury can dish up without getting smug. With 34 riders on the start line, the road was quick and the times absolutely flew.

At the pointy end, Davies laid down a cracking ride to stop the clock at a blistering 19:40.1, averaging 48.81km/h. That is properly moving. Not far behind, Andre Free was flying in second with 20:09.5, and Will Pringle rounded out the top three with a strong 21:15.5.

And how good to see the women lighting it up as well. Jesse Thomson was the first woman home with a superb 24:30.9, riding into the overall top 10 and showing plenty of sting. Julia Spark was next in 26:02.3, with Lily Miller the leading schoolgirl in 27:06.8. Awesome riding from the women tonight, and great to see that side of the field continuing to grow.

Big nod too to the rest of the front end of the field, Shaun Brookes, Kris Bowditch, David Roche, and Harrison Tapper, all putting together seriously solid rides on a very fast night.

A stunning evening, a rapid course, and some proper quick bike riding. Bit hard to blame the wind tonight, because there wasn’t any.

🌬️🚴 TAI TAPU TT – BEAT YOURSELF NIGHT 🚴🌬️

Another stunning Canterbury evening, just a gentle nor’east whispering through… enough to keep things honest without completely ruining lives.

There wasn’t a heap of confidence pre-race… plenty of chat about “nah I won’t beat my time tonight”…

…and then a funny thing happened — a bunch of you did. 😏🔥

🏆 Overall Podium

🥇 David Plew – 21:25.3 ⚡ 44.81 km/h
🥈 Shaun Brookes – 21:44.2
🥉 Kris Bowditch – 22:06.1

Sharp, tidy, and properly quick across the board.

🌸 Top Women

🥇 Aimee Free – 26:08.5 ⚡
🥈 Julia Spark – 26:27.1
🥉 Lily Miller – 26:51.8

Awesome riding — strong, consistent, and right in the mix. 💪🚴‍♀️

👀 BUT… that wasn’t the real race tonight.

The real race was you vs your last self.

And absolutely stealing the show…

🔥 TRISH JONES 🔥

Crushed her previous time by a massive 1 minute 10 seconds 🤯

That’s not improvement… that’s a full system upgrade.

🏆 Winner of the Lawrence Pithie WorldTour skinsuit
💰 Worth over $600
🇫🇷 Built for the Tour de France

And now heading to Tai Tapu next Tuesday…

We fully expect to see Trish rolling up looking like she’s about to start Stage 1. 😎🚴‍♀️

👏 Big thanks to everyone who leaned into the concept tonight.

Turns out the most dangerous rider on course…
is the one chasing their past self.

See you next week ⏱️🔥 www.raceclocker.com/bbb8881

🚴‍♂️🏔️ Le Race is next Saturday. 🏔️🚴‍♀️

There are plenty of rides you can do on any given weekend.

But there are only a few events that feel like a real milestone.

Le Race is one of them.

It’s not just another ride on the calendar.
It’s a proper test.
A tough, iconic Canterbury event that has challenged riders for years and still carries a bit of mana when you say you’ve done it.

What’s been interesting for me this year is seeing it through fresh eyes.

My daughter Mckenzie has only been riding for about six months, and Le Race is a big goal for her. She’s been training for it, thinking about it, probably overthinking it at times too like we all do 😄

And that’s the magic of an event like this.

For newer riders, it’s a huge challenge.
For experienced riders, it’s a chance to measure yourself again.
For everyone, it’s one of those events that gives training a purpose and crossing the line a bit more meaning.

These are the rides that stay with you.

🏔️ A serious challenge
🔥 A proper sense of achievement
🚴‍♀️ An iconic event that still means something

If you’ve been thinking about it, this is your nudge.

CANTERBURY CYCLING COMMUNITY – WE NEED YOUR HELP

Next weekend is the Canterbury Championships at Glentunnel and we need at least 10 volunteers to help make it happen.

It’s an ambitious new course and a fantastic championship event, but it only works if our community steps up.

If you can help for part of the day please text or call Alex – 027 277 6659 or email [email protected]

Also a reminder entries are open until Saturday night if you're still keen to race.

Thanks team — events like this only happen because of the people behind them.
