A first time appearance at last years A.C.I.T.A. was Dean's 1974 Type 181 "The Thing", which was imported from California a few years ago.
It went through compliance in Timaru and got sorted after a few front end damage repairs were fixed, and a full rust inspection.
A bit more work done to body and interior including rubbers, seats etc including engine changes, exhaust, twin carbs, electronic fuel pump and ignition.
It is affectionately known as "The Yellow Submarine" due to playing on repeat the beetles song when driving around Twizel in summer with the grand children (original colour was yellow)...

Joy and her Westfalia Camper

A regular to past Air Cooled in the Alps events at Tekapo, Joy inherited this 1977 Westfalia camper from here parents around 10 years ago. It was purchased new in the UK and travelled overland back to NZ, and has a service stamp in Afghanistan among others. It was then sold to Riveria cars in Christchurch then purchased by her parents in 1980. Joy remembers many camping trips over the years and the small boat they towed behind it. A rare factory RHD, it has just recently clocked up 100,000 Klms.
And for any old rockers out there, Joy's brother-in-law was Gary Thain, bass player in "Uriah Heep" šŸ¤Ÿ

This type 3 Variant was gifted to Transport World by an elderly gent from Oamaru. There were letters between previous owners in the glovebox, and a credit card issued to the original owner from 5 star motors...šŸ˜Ž

Ok, the last 5 years at Tekapo has been great, but the winds of change are blowing through A.C.I.T.A.

This years event will be held at Wanaka.

Base camp will be Glendhu Bay, the Saturday and Sunday nights as usual. This is an absolute lake front campground and a magic spot. Plenty of reasonably priced cabins, and there is a communal bbq area. Book early, it'll be a good one...
