Meet ☘️ This four-piece from Ireland is bringing a fresh, energetic take on traditional Irish music to Auckland Folk Festival this January, with songs about love, tunes about life and everything in between.

Tulua have been playing music together since they were young, and their roots run deep. They've spent years exploring the songs and tunes of their local area and the rest of Ireland. Since their debut album in 2023 they've toured Ireland, Canada, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, France and the USA. Find out more about them at tuluamusic.com

Meet Yurt Party! This six-piece street party band is bringing Balkan and Latin beats, soaring reggae-soaked melodies and a touch of electronica to Auckland Folk Festival this January.

Yurt Party started out as a trio playing lively traditional music from Eastern Europe, Latin America and the folk world. Bit by bit they added members (violin, saxophone, guitar, keys, bass and drums) until they became the festival groove powerhouse they are today, trading trad covers for original dance-floor bangers.

Their sound was shaped on a pedestrian street in Christchurch with a European feel. Under the brightly lit buildings, they'd play right in the middle of the crowd and turn the whole space into an epic street party. That's where the name for their style came from: street party music.

Since then they've toured the length of Aotearoa and played festivals including Woodford Folk Festival (Aus), Electric Avenue, Twisted Frequency and CubaDupa. Whether it's a late-night club set alongside DJs or a festival stage with world and folk acts, a Yurt Party show is a celebration of collective joy. Bring your dancing shoes.

Meet Apolline 🌿 🎻 Australian folk trio Apolline is an award winning neo-trad band heading to Auckland Folk Festival this January.

Growing up on Wurrundjeri Country in Naarm/Melbourne, members Tess (cello), Luisa (fiddle) and Laura (bass) grew up in families already greatly influenced by music. Siblings Tess and Luisa Hickey were exposed to the folk scene in 2011 at The Lake School of Song & Dance, slowly and steadily falling in love with the musical traditions.

Tess and Luisa met Laura Heaney during high school when they played in the Jazz and Symphonic bands together. Before long they inducted her into Melbourne’s thriving folk scene. From then they started to played together regularly, before making their formal festival debut at the National Celtic Folk Festival in 2022.

In their spare time, Apolline enjoys a hot cup of tea sourced from their new tea cabinet (very exciting) while discussing which kind of sock heel is the best to knit, playing Mario Kart and, of course, listening to Tess talk endlessly about Zelda and Minecraft.
