In 2020 renowned medium, Kevin Cruickshank had to cancel his visit to the Civic Theatre. One of our staff members quipped to him "oh you didn't see that one coming" 👀

Did you know John Lennon originally wanted to be hung by his feet and swung around the microphone during the recording of ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’ to give it a natural echo.

On 14 November 1906, the Invercargill Town Hall first opened its doors, later becoming the Civic Theatre.

120 years later, we’re still part of Invercargill’s story.

Generations of Southlanders have walked through these doors. From school shows, concerts, dance recitals, community events, big celebrations, international acts, movies, wrestling, and unforgettable nights out - this place has seen it all.

Some came to perform. Some came to support someone they love. Some just came for a good old night out.

No matter the reason, the Civic has always brought people together.

As we head towards the Theatre’s official 120th anniversary this November, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the people and memories that have made it special for generations - and the next generation of stories still to come.

Late one night after The Pink Floyd Experience, our technician was alone backstage in the dark.

Someone behind him whispered, “that was a great show.”

He turned around.

The stage was empty.

To the mothers who helped us get on stage and the mother's who stood on stage with us.
