Thank you to all our adventurous Halflings and their Fellowships for joining us for the unforgettable 5th Middle-earth Halfling Marathon over the weekend.

We hope that you all enjoyed your journey through the rolling hills of the mighty Waikato and the picturesque winding paths of the village of Hobbiton Movie Set 👣

We were thrilled to see so many smiling faces and amazing costumes out on the course, across the finish line and soaking up the atmosphere at the Halfling Event Village.

We want to congratulate each of you for taking on the journey and we hope to share in another adventure soon!

The 2026 Middle-earth Halfling Marathon has arrived 🏃

Wishing all our adventurous Halflings a wonderful time as you journey through the rolling green hills of the Waikato and around the winding paths of the village of Hobbiton today!

Check-in is available in The Hub, 501 Buckland Rd, Matamata from now - 9am to 1 hour before each event start today, Saturday 28 March.

Tomorrow Halflings will set off on the epic 2026 Middle-earth Halfling Marathon 👣

Early event check-in is available from 3pm to 8pm today, Friday 27 March.

All registrants who check in during our early check in hours will go in the draw to win a Middle-earth Halfling Marathon prize pack at prizegiving!

Event day check-in is available from 9am to 1 hour before each event start tomorrow, Saturday 28 March.

Check in is located in The Hub, at the back of The Shire's Rest Cafe carpark at 501, Buckland Rd Matamata.

We look forward to sharing in an unforgettable adventure with all our Halflings and wish them all the best on their adventure tomorrow!

PRIZE-GIVING 🍻
Beginning at 6pm, the Middle-earth Halfling Marathon prize-giving will be hosted in the Halfling Event Village.

During prize-giving, Halflings and their fellowship will celebrate their epic journey there and back again. Prizes will be awarded for 1st in each event division and best dressed, as well as our major spot prizes.

Remember to check-in for the event during our early check in hours between 3pm - 8pm on Friday 27 March to go in the draw to win a Middle-earth Halfling Marathon prize pack!

HALFLING EVENT VILLAGE 🍔

Located at The Shire's Rest, the Halfling Event Village will be buzzing with entertainment for the entire family to enjoy from 11.00am, Saturday 28 March, throughout event day.

You can expect a variety of dining and beverage options and interactive entertainment for all ages. There will also be a limited range of merchandise available for purchase in the event village on event day. Food and beverage vendors as well as our merchandise store will be accepting cash and eftpos payments on event day.
We look forward to seeing all our Halflings, spectators and supporters enjoying the festivities in the Village on Saturday 🍻

EVENT DAY TRANSPORT AND PARKING 🚘

Parking at The Shires Rest:
Parking at the Shires Rest is fully booked. No more parking passes are available. Please note that all vehicles arriving at The Shires Rest MUST have an officially issued parking pass displayed on your dashboard, this includes any spectators and supporters.

If you selected Shire’s Rest parking at the time of registration, you should have now received your unique parking pass via email. If you have not yet received this, please check your junk or spam folders before reaching out to our team by emailing [email protected]

Travelling with someone else who has a parking pass?
Now is a great time to check that they have received their parking pass.

Free return transport:
If you selected return transport from Matamata or Cambridge, you should have received an email from our event team with departure times and have since received a booking confirmation confirming your departure time.

Matamata buses are departing from the Matamata Information Centre, 45 Broadway, Matamata and Cambridge buses are departing from the Victoria Street bus stop, opposite Cambridge Town Hall, Corner Queen and Victoria Streets, Cambridge.
For those who have pre-booked the Matamata or Cambridge departure.

Please note that the majority of these buses are fully booked. It is important to only arrive with the number of passengers that have been confirmed by the Halfling event team, and please allow enough time to arrive and park at these locations. Return transfers will begin departing at the conclusion of prizegiving, scheduled to start at 6:00 pm.

Below you will find the 2026 course map.

There is a chance that rain will be present on and around event day this week. This means that the course may become wet, slippery and muddy in some places. We recommend checking the forecast before your adventure and being prepared with wet weather gear and a spare change of clothes for after you cross the finish line. Registrations are very limited, there are around 40 x 21.1km Halfling Marathon Registrations and 70 x 11.1km Eleventy-First Registrations up for grabs in this re-release.

This is your final chance to secure a registration and join us for the adventure. There is no waitlist for this event.

FINAL CHANCE TO JOIN THE 2026 MIDDLE-EARTH HALFLING MARATHON!!

Hi Halflings! When registrations for the 2026 Middle-earth Halfling Marathon opened, places were claimed far faster than we ever anticipated, and many of you unfortunately missed out.

Following our final operational planning and with the registration cancellation period now closed, a small number of unexpected registrations have become available for this year’s event on 28 March, 2026.

These remaining registrations will become available on a first-in-first served basis at 11am on Friday 6 March (New Zealand Time) at https://eventplus.net/MEH26 or at www.halflingmarathon.com

PLEASE NOTE:
- We are expecting a very large number of people will be attempting to purchase these registrations so want to be transparent about what is available. We will have around 110 registrations up for grabs, with 40 of these being for the 21.1km Halfling Marathon and 70 for the 11.1km Eleventy-first.

- We recommend creating an EventPlus login prior to the registrations being released so you are ready to add to cart and check out as quickly as possible.

- The cut off for pre-purchasing merchandise has now passed. There will be a limited range available for purchase during early check-in with remaining stock available for purchase at the Event Village on event day.

- Registrations made during this release will be non-refundable and non-transferable. Please only purchase a registration if you do intend in participating in the event.

We’re incredibly grateful for the enthusiasm and support shown by our fellowship and look forward to welcoming some more lucky Halflings to the start line on event day.
