What a weekend! What a show! It’s hard to pick a highlight – what is it for you? Gotta say the Manawatu Hunt hounds were a hit as was Santa on horseback. But what about Tui Teka and his mastery, and all the competition? There’s been some incredible jumping across all arenas. Thank you to everyone who supported our show – we couldn’t do it without you! What a way to see out 2025!

Claudia Hurley capped off an excellent Cartown Kiwi Super Classic in the show hunter arena by winning both the NZ Horse Vans Open Champion crown and reserve with her horses Bluetooth and Wai Iti Willow. She also picked up the NRM Open National Series with Wai Iti Willow and the Summit Grains and Saddlery Amateur National Series with Bluetooth. She is pictured with her open champ Bluetooth.

Nigel Horton only ever had one plan for him and Mandalay Cove in the Gyro Plastics Stars in Your Eyes Final . . . and he’s “stoked as” that played out perfectly.
Twenty-one combinations started the opening round of the final with the 12 clear rounds progressing to the second round where the top seven were all double clear.
But the day belonged to Nigel and Mandalay Cove who was late to go and sliced and diced to cross the flags in 54.02 seconds, with Ella Easton and A&P Firenze home in 54.02 and Sophie Scott aboard Glenbrooke Rich as Roses third in 56.85.
“I liked the course out there,” said Nigel who drives trucks through the week and “hobby farms” at the weekend. “I like to get into the ring a little early to make sure I can do what want to. I like to watch some of the earlier ones go too and see how they approach fences and what they are doing.”
He’s had 18-year-old Mandalay Cove for around four years he figures and feels very lucky to have him. “We have plenty of great fun and had some good results. He is an older horse so it is about keeping it real and make sure he is happy. He is a cool all round kind of horse. It’s important to get out there and have fun.”
He had a blast at the show and tipped his hat to organiser Kevin Hansen and his team of volunteers for all the work they had put into the show – especially for the excellent prize money!

Sophie Scott’s domination of the Cartown Kiwi Super Classic continued this afternoon when she won the major class, the Super Star Final, aboard Waitangi Skynet and was also third with Equine America Benrose Stellar and fourth on Equine America LT Holst Eloquent.
Twenty-five progressed through to the Super Star Final. Eight were clear over the opening round of the FEI Level 3 Michael Haese (AUS) designed course, but 15 came through to the second round, the remainder carrying faults.
It was a thrilling second round with combinations chasing the big prize pot and keen to stake their claim in the class. However, the very in-form and always dangerous Sophie Sophie proved just too good for the rest with her double clear in 44.5 seconds aboard Waitangi Skynet. South Islander Katie Meredith and ES Quincy gave it their all but came up just show with their clean 45.96-second effort. Sophie was also double clear with her other two horses Stellar (47.08) and Eloquent (48.29).
