Ōhinerau / Mt Hobson

The Māori name Ōhinerau means the place of Hinerau, the goddess of whirlwinds. Be blown away by the history of this Maunga and the spectacular views in all directions.

Once a large and thriving pā, Ōhinerau was home to around 1,000 people at its peak, with terraces, storage pits, and gardens stretching across its slopes.

Today, remnants of this history are still visible near the tihi (summit).

Summer: 7 am – 8.30 pm | Winter: 7 am – 7 pm

🌱 Flashback to 2021 at Te Pane o Mataoho / Te Ara Pueru / Māngere Mountain, where students from five local primary and secondary schools came together to help restore and care for our Tūpuna Maunga. 💚

That mahi continues today, with community planting days happening regularly across the Maunga. Every planting day helps restore native ecosystems and strengthen our connection to these special places.
