Te Kopuru Play Trailer

Te Kopuru Community Development Group (TKCDG) is a volunteer organisation established to support community projects, consisting of members representing key organisations throughout the community. To combat the limited opportunities for local tamariki & rangatahi and provide youth with a chance to get involved in play, active recreation and sport, the idea of a Play Trailer emerged. The project was a collaboration between Dargaville Blue Light, Dargaville Police, Te Kopuru School, TKCDG, Sport Northland to support the continued use of the trailer and assisted with funding via Tลซ Manawa Active Aotearoa. The play trailer was filled with all sorts of sports and play equipment to suit all ages, before being blessed by the local Kaumatua and shared with the community. The trailer has since had a roadshow around all Northern Wairoa Schools, proving to be a valuable resource allowing youth to participate in self-determined unstructured play, with hugely positive feedback coming from all involved.

Reuben Cohen, coordinator for Blue Light and Youth Aid Constable was delighted with the roadshow and said โ€œDargaville Police & Blue Light were thrilled to see so many kids engaged in informal active play. Thank you to the team at Sport Northland and all the schools who participated. We canโ€™t wait for the next roadshow!โ€. Following on from the roadshow, schools are now booking the trailer for periods of time in their school and the community is starting to use it at events.

Congratulations Te Kopuru Community Development, and all of the Te Kopuru community for coming together to provide this resource for local youth!
