Light Up Winter Cromwell Join us in celebrating our night sky and saying farewell to winter!

The Cromwell & Districts Promotion Group, organisers behind much loved community events of Light Up Winter, Cromwell Street Party & Fireworks and the NZ Cherry Pit-Spit Championship amongst other initiatives, is looking to fill two roles to continue the work we do for Cromwell & Districts and our local community.

💬 Communications & Marketing Manager – approx. 20 hours/week
Help share the stories of our core event celebrations, connect with our community and promote the events and initiatives that make Cromwell & Districts such a great place to live, work and visit.

🤝 Funding & Sponsorship Manager – approx. 6 hours/week
Help coordinate funding and sponsorship, build strong relationships with local businesses and funders, and help secure the support that makes our community events and initiatives possible.

Both roles offer flexibility and autonomy, and the chance to be part of a passionate local team making things happen in our community.

Light Up Winter doesn’t just happen. It takes an incredible crew of volunteers across age groups and generations, all willing to pitch in and do whatever needs doing, often long before the first lantern is lit and well after the last one has floated away. 🏮✨

Some were front and centre. Others worked quietly behind the scenes. Some were there for hours, some popped in to lend a hand, and some seemed to be everywhere! 😂

And that’s what makes our volunteer crew so special, different ages, different backgrounds, different jobs, all coming together for the same reason: to help create a little bit of magic for our community. ❤️

Did you spot the polar bear on the loose at Light Up Winter?!🐻‍❄️👀

Well… it turns out there was a very special someone inside that furry suit! 😂

One of our amazing committee members, Tessa Croall, stepped into the role and absolutely rocked it. With endless energy, enthusiasm and a serious commitment to bear duties, she quickly became one of the most photographed entertainers of the night! 📸🐻‍❄️

And a special shout-out to Tessa’s husband, Blair Croall, who made sure all the batteries and electrics were safely attached before this bear hit the streets! 🔋⚡🐻‍❄️

🐾 (Official Bear Welfare Disclaimer: No polar bears were harmed, overworked or left out in the cold during the making of this event. Our bear was treated with the utmost care, respect and plenty of snacks, fully compliant with the very important imaginary Polar Bear Welfare Code of New Zealand).😂

Meet Kylie...our calm, capable and quietly brilliant co-event manager who stepped up behind the scenes for our 10th Light Up Winter. From solving problems to keeping the team grounded, she was an absolute legend.

And yes, with Kylie running Grounded Breath - Kylie Hodkinson, it seems only fitting that she helped us all breathe a little easier! 💛

What a Light Up Winter debut for Matt Chisholm!🎤✨

Matt certainly kept the laughs coming, the event flowing and the crowd entertained from start to finish.

With his trademark humour, warmth and genuine connection, he had everyone feeling right at home and made our 10th anniversary celebration even more memorable.

While Matt was keeping the show on the road, his family got to soak up the festivities and experience the magic of Light Up Winter from the other side of the microphone. We hope they loved every minute of it! 💛

💛 Cromwell Menz Shed – for creating our Winter Wonderland props and helping bring our lantern lighting to life.
💛 Cromwell Lions Club – for the ever-popular Thomas the Train ride, a highlight for little and big kids alike! 🚂
💛 Harcourts Cromwell – for manning the lantern token kiosk and helping keep things running smoothly.
💛 Copyfast - for all things print, and always being there to help at short notice!
💛 🔤 Signbiz Southern Lakes – supporting us with large-scale outdoor event promotional signage.
💛 Cromwell Volunteer Fire Brigade – for bringing along the vintage fire truck and providing countless photo opportunities! 🚒📸
💛 Queenstown Airport – for promoting Light Up Winter in the airport arrivals halls and hosting a special FLAME Entertainment performance the day before the event.
