Meet Nick & Josephine, Owners of Hololio Estate

Nick and Josephine have carefully developed Hololio Estate into a place that balances heritage, function, sporting prestige, and modern rural living.

From restoring the original Munro Homestead into what is now Hololio House, to reworking the land through extensive planting, landscaping, and the creation of event spaces, their approach has been both considered and hands-on.

And if you know Hololio, you’ll know polo is part of its DNA. With the establishment of the Hololio Polo Club and grounds, what began with Nick’s professional career is now a passion shared across the entire family — from competitive tournament play through to the pre- and post-season spectacle that is Golf Cart Polo.

Step into the story of Hololio Estate this autumn.

As part of East Auckland Tourism’s Autumn Walkfest, the Hololio Farm and Garden Wander invites you to explore the estate — where local history, polo heritage and rolling rural landscape come together.

Beginning at the 1892 Munro Homestead (Hololio House), the walk guides you across the Hololio polo fields and along the Wairoa floodplain. Along the way, uncover layers of Clevedon’s past — from early European settlement to Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki history, including the pre-1864 fort and kāianga sites.

The journey continues along the Wairoa River, connecting into the Clevedon Trails network, before returning through the estate gardens to Hololio House for afternoon tea.
