Our Te Pae Christchurch whānau (family) recently came together for this quarter’s hui (meeting), a great chance to connect and celebrate our achievements. We were also pleased to welcome Peter Loxton, Chief Operating Officer, APAC at Legends Global, who joined us to share insights and connect with our team.

We received nearly 70 Recognition Award nominations this quarter, reflecting the awesome mahi (work) happening across the business. We also celebrated team members reaching 3 and 5 years of service, with a special shoutout to our 29 five-year anniversary staff members, who received the Pounamu Pin.

From 15–17 October, Te Pae Christchurch will host three days of runway shows, presentations and fashion experiences as part of Christchurch Spring Fashion Festival 2026.

Featuring The New Guard, The Spring Edit and Breast Cancer Cure's Fashion for a Cure, the programme brings together some of Aotearoa’s leading designers and emerging talent for a celebration of New Zealand fashion.

The festival continues on 18 October with additional events across the city.

A huge congratulations to our Executive Chef, Desmond Davies, on his appointment as Events and Industry Partnerships Director on the board of the New Zealand Chefs Association.

This appointment is a fantastic recognition of his experience, leadership and contribution to hospitality. We're incredibly proud to see him taking on this role and representing both Te Pae Christchurch and the wider Canterbury hospitality community.

Meet Our Team: Rowena, Community and Guest Relations Manager.

Four and a half years ago, Rowena began a new chapter, moving from a 30-year career in education into the events industry. What started as a career change, quickly became an opportunity to help shape the guest services experience at Te Pae Christchurch from the ground up.

For Rowena, it's always been about people. That's what she enjoys most about her role, whether she's welcoming guests, supporting her team, or helping create positive experiences for everyone who walks through our doors.

One of the things she loves most about Te Pae Christchurch is that no two days are ever the same. Every event brings new conversations, new experiences, and new opportunities to learn.

Over the last week, our kitchen team collected 3kg of soft plastics that would otherwise have gone to landfill. Instead, these materials will be recycled into useful products such as fence posts, garden beds and parking bumpers, giving them a second life in our communities.

This initiative is one of many small steps we're taking to reduce waste and improve sustainability across our operations. A huge thanks to our culinary team for getting behind the programme, led by our Sustainability Coordinator, Nicky Lowther, and helping drive positive change behind the scenes.

Want to recycle your own soft plastics? Many everyday items, including bread bags, frozen food bags, produce bags and chip packets, can be recycled through the Soft Plastics Recycling Scheme. Find your nearest drop-off point using the store locator here: https://buff.ly/FZOXotH
