“Mā te huruhuru ka rere te manu” ... with feathers, the bird can fly.

This mural speaks to the power of whānau, community, and the environments we create around us. Just like feathers lift the manu, the support systems we choose help shape our futures.

Created for World Smokefree May, this piece reflects the idea that a smokefree life is one of those feathers, strengthening our hauora, our clarity, and our ability to move forward together.

Big mihi to Hāpai Te Hauora for supporting this kaupapa, and to artists Drows, Charles & Janine Williams for bringing it to life through a fusion of cultural narrative and contemporary graffiti styles.

Big thanks to Montana Cans
for backing Sea Signals.

Montana has always been tied to graffiti culture, so having that support across the festival meant a lot. Artists had access to reliable, high-quality cans across every wall, from detail work to full coverage.

Shoutout as well to and for supplying and keeping everything running smoothly on the ground.

Appreciate the support 🤝

Powered by paint. Backed by legends.

Massive shoutout to Dulux New Zealand for coming through as our official paint partner for Sea Signals 💙

All murals across the festival were created using Dulux Weathershield products, built to handle the elements and keep these works looking fresh on the streets of Ōtautahi for years to come.

From prep to final coat, Dulux supported our artists with quality product, colour matching, and behind-the-scenes support that made a huge difference on the ground.

You’re not just looking at murals, you’re looking at durability, colour, and craftsmanship backed by one of the best in the game.

Big love to the Dulux team for backing artists and helping bring this kaupapa to life 🙌

This work focuses on the Māui dolphin, one of the rarest marine mammals in the world. Small, playful, and found only off the west coast of Aotearoa, it is the smallest species of dolphin on the planet, living right here in our own backyard.

Despite this, the Māui dolphin is now critically endangered.
There are believed to be only 55 individuals over the age of one remaining.

The mural highlights an uncomfortable truth. Extinction is not just something from the past. Human activity continues to push species to the brink.

The Māui dolphin faces ongoing threats including:
• Marine pollution and plastics
• Boat strikes
• Oil, gas and mineral exploration
• Toxoplasmosis
• Fishing bycatch including set nets and trawling

The work invites reflection on responsibility and restraint. Protecting the Māui dolphin does not require extraordinary innovation, it requires change.

Sometimes, saving a species is less about doing more, and more about choosing to do less

PEOPLE OF THE MOANA - Kophie Su'a-Hulsbosch kophie_loaf

Portrait of Jeff Su’a. Father, ocean lover, avid swimmer.

This piece centres on personal connection to the moana. Not as an abstract idea, but through lived experience, family, and everyday relationships with the ocean.

By placing her father at the centre, Kophie grounds the work in something real and intimate. A reminder that our connection to the ocean is often shaped through the people around us, passed down through generations.
