Every year we're given the privilege to celebrate the huge range of cultures and peoples that have chosen to make Tāmaki Makaurau their home.
Through World of Cultures, we get to help share that privilege with everyone across the region and showcase the people, places and communities that make this one of the best places in the world to live - so we want to thank all of you who put on events, workshops, classes and experiences. Those who gave up their time to visit our libraries, community centres, set up in our public spaces, showcase your talents, creativity, passion and aroha for us to all share across the series - we appreciate the work, passion and skill that goes into this. And to those who explored, created, and learnt through it all, we hope it helps you appreciate the beautiful tapestry that makes up our home.
Kotahi te kohao o te ngira e kuhuna ai te miro ma, te miro pango, te miro whero. Through the eye of the needle pass the white thread, the black thread and the red thread. This is a Whakatauākī (proverb) said by Kiingi Potatau, the first Māori King in 1858 at his koroneihana (Coronation) and a timely reminder of why we celebrate World of Cultures every year.
