Jazz is more than a genre; it’s a dialogue.

On April 30th, we join the global community in celebrating International Jazz Day at Moksh. This session brings together the KJC faculty for a night built on the essentials of the craft: improvisation, spontaneity, and the collective energy of a large ensemble.

We’re digging into the standards that allow for this kind of musical conversation—blending straight-ahead jazz with the syncopated languages of Brazil.

On stage:
Guitars: Rajat Rai & Moa Edmunds
Keyboards: Abhisek Bhadra
Bass: Martin Zenker (Germany)
Drums: Sudhir Acharya
Flute/Sax: Tomas Carrasco
Vocals: Vishwadeep Moktan, Bishal Kashyap, Kunzanee Maharjan & Adhishree Kaspal

All proceeds support the KJC Scholarship Fund, keeping the music accessible for the next generation of players in Nepal.

The musical world of Duo Passacaglia is shaped by a reinterpretation of works by great masters such as Bach, Schumann, Beethoven, and Brahms, putting them in a contemporary and new light.

The delicate balance between the familiar melodies of the classical originals and the impulsive creativity of jazz opens up an extraordinary listening experience. The themes appear as recognizable motifs like mosaic stones, forming the starting point for lyrical and dynamic dialogues between piano and saxophone.

Featuring:
🎹 Marcus Schinkel — Named ‘Best Keyboardist in Germany’ by the German Pop & Rock Award Foundation.

🎷 Reiner Witzel — An internationally renowned saxophonist and sought-after workshop lecturer worldwide.

Join us for an evening that bridges the gap between jazz and classical music while supporting music education in Nepal.

Returning to the stage for our first Katjazz Session since the passing of our dear friend and Co-Artistic Director, Eric Chandra Shrestha, was a moment of profound significance. Marking 50 days since he left us, this session was more than just a concert; it was a dedicated space to honor his spirit and the music that bound us together.

A massive thank you to everyone who joined us at Moksh to make this evening so resonant. To our incredible performers, Ser O Duo, Walkman, and Jhuma Limbu, thank you for sharing your artistry and helping us navigate this transition through music.

As we move forward, we carry Eric’s vision with us, committed to keeping this fire burning and ensuring his legacy continues to thrive.

May we keep creating spaces where we listen and connect.

We hope to see you at the next one as we keep this journey going.

With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Chandra Shrestha, Co-Artistic Director of the Katjazz Festival, passed away yesterday.

Eric was not only an essential part of Katjazz, but a deeply important presence in Nepal’s arts and music community. He truly cared about the scene here and about the people within it. He supported artists selflessly, believed in their work, and consistently showed up with honesty, commitment, and care.

He was hardworking, passionate, and deeply invested in raising standards while always putting people first. Eric challenged ideas, pushed creative boundaries, and worked tirelessly behind the scenes, often without recognition. Working with him was a joy, and knowing him was a privilege. To many of us, he was not just a collaborator, but a wonderful friend.

We are heartbroken by this loss and extend our deepest love and condolences to his family, loved ones, friends, and the entire arts and music community during this incredibly difficult time.

Funeral details:
Date: Wednesday, 7th January
Time: 7:00 a.m.
Location: Buddhist Crematory Center, Swayambhu Kora

Eric’s presence, generosity, and spirit will continue to live on through the community he cared for so deeply.
