A Curious Story

A Curious Improv Comedy Festival in the Night-Time starts as a joke. Like most good ideas are. On a fateful May in 2017, Thomas (Stranger Things Have Happened, Netherlands) found a cheap ticket to Oslo to visit his old friend Aree Witoelar. Rumors have it, there are rumblings in the Oslo improv scene. Aree’s plan was simple: get Thomas to teach a few tricks, invite a few friends and do a little show.

But then, hmm.. why not go big? Impro Neuf International had just turned 1.5 year old, and it’s time to stand up and walk. Fresh off an international festival, it was clear that Oslo had a lot of improv talent to give. Aree put out a little bait, and one team bit. Then two. Then three. Before long, SEVEN teams are up for the challenge. This was no little show. This was a mini-festival. A Curious Improv Comedy Festival in the Night-Time was born, and it was a then-unheard of FOUR hours of improv by local talents.

A Curious Improv Comedy Festival in the Night-Time sparked a revolution at Impro Neuf International. It showed that anyone can improvise. The festival was the proof that Oslo was not only ready, but hungry. Not long after, in Autumn 2017, Impro Neuf International created the first ever English improv theatre. Things have gotten out of hand since. Teams proliferate in numbers. By the second Curious Improv Comedy Festival in the Night-Time, 4 hours simply isn’t enough. Everyone wants the challenge. On its the second year, no less than 13 teams and 40 improvisers took the stage.

A Curious Improv Comedy Festival in the Night-Time is now an annual spring celebration of improv. We are proud of our improv, and of our unashamedly long name. Game on, Oslo.
