Sunday 12 October is the last opening day for the 13th edition of MOMENTUM – Nordic Biennale of Contemporary Art – «Between/Worlds: Resonant Ecologies».

MOMENTUM 13 is curated by Morten Søndergaard and has exhibited around 40 artworks inside Galleri F 15 and outdoors at Jeløy since the opening on 14 June. With a focus on sound art, the biennale has invited the audience to tune into the overlooked and unheard sounds that surround us.

Galleri F 15 & Momentum would like to thank the brilliant artists, curator, staff, partners and collaborators who have contributed in the making of MOMENTUM 13. 👏

And last but not least, a huge thank you to our audience who has visited the exhibition over the past four months. 🙏

10 days left of MOMENTUM 13! ✨

Sound and listening have been at the center of the thirteenth edition of MOMENTUM, “Between/Worlds: Resonant Ecologies”, curated by Morten Søndergaard.

The biennale has received a number of positive reviews from both Norwegian and international press, here is a small selection:

– Those seeking a short break from the crises of our time and enthusiastic about the quiet, the overlooked, the unheard can experience some truly moving resonance at the Momentum Biennale. (MONOPOL)

– MOMENTUM 13 reminds the audience of the value of listening to their surroundings. (Aftenposten)

– With sound and ecology at its center, Momentum avoids the pretentiousness and trend-hopping that plagues many art world events. (The Wire)

– The question of how we listen permeates the thirteenth edition of the contemporary art biennial Momentum. (Morgenbladet)

– Sound can nudge us toward cross-species empathy or reorient us to pay attention to the “voices” of wind and stone, and even the electrical impulses hidden in digital networks. (Artribune)

– From the choice of artists to the arrangement of the work across the space, the 13th MOMENTUM biennale makes all the right calls. (Recessed Space)

– Sound emerges here as a space for resistance, for reconnecting with what is essential. It brings us closer to nature in its most primal state, to the planet’s heartbeat. (A-desk)

Such a well-written piece by María Muñoz-Martínez at A-desk!

– In the end, MOMENTUM 13 carries a certain je-ne-sais-quoi of ritual, trance, and extracranial connection. It offers a latent critique of the colonizing gaze—that impulse to name before listening. Sound emerges here as a space for resistance, for reconnecting with what is essential. It brings us closer to nature in its most primal state, to the planet’s heartbeat; it lets us feel the presence of wind in the trees, the murmur of water, the echo of what once was and could be again.

🎧 Juan Pablo Pacheco Bejarano’s «Electric Tide» suggests that you walk from Galleri F 15 to Jeløy Cable House before listening to a meditation once you arrive.

🎧 JO Kazuhiro’s «soundwalk: afternoon, 21st, February, 2025 (with an artist and a curator)» takes place on a short path near Galleri F 15, where you join Kazuhiro and Curator Morten Søndergaard on an intimated journey.

Magnus Bons shares his experiences from MOMENTUM 13 in this review at Konsten.net.

– And it is precisely similar inner expansions that the best works in Momentum13 achieve. Often with small means, only through careful disruptions of the real. And sometimes even without sound.

NEO 2 takes a deep dive into the MOMENTUM 13 artworks in this review!

– The sound lives in the air we breathe, in the side of our bodies, in the pulse of towns and cities. The sound remains as a sutil and implacable voice. It's the persistent rumor of natural beauty. The vibration that comes when everything else disappears. Thus, the biennial Momentum 13 proposes that we educate ourselves and try to connect with this sensorial dimension that transcends. Of course, not only does it present works, but it invites us to inhabit a sonic space where memory, politics and emotion come together.

A great review by Giovanni Gasparini in Il Sole 24 ORE!

– Although more traditional and close to the visual arts, the presence of video complements the site-specific installations that take place in the park of Gallerie F15, the forest and ploughed fields sloping down towards the bay: a century ago it was one of Munch's favourite places and is present in several of his works.
