●— BB Academy 26: presenting Sebastiaan Molenaar

Versatility has always been one of the keywords for describing Sebastiaan's personality. From the days he was living on a houseboat in the center of Amsterdam, as skateboarder or as drummer in punk bands. In 2005, he moved with his family from the Netherlands to Norway, got by coincidence in contact with a local brass band and started playing classical percussion by the age of 18. One year after he was accepted to study at the Norwegian Academy of Music and later finished his Master degree in orchestral percussion and timpani in 2017 at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

Sebastiaan is since 2026 principal timpanist of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and has previously been solo timpanist of the Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra (2019-2024). During the last years he also worked intensely with orchestras like the Kammerorchester Basel, Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Wroclaw Philharmonic and Gstaad Festival Orchestra, among others.

In 2022, Sebastiaan founded Bodø BEAT International Percussion Festival in Norway. He has also been managing director for the Arctic Chamber Music Festival at Svalbard and is a representing artist for Adams Musical Instruments.

●— BB Academy 2026: presenting Jason Ginter

Jason is the founder of JGPercussion. For seventeen years he has worked toward the goal of creating the finest quality timpani mallets, together with timpanists like Joseph Pereira (LA Philharmonic) and David Herbert (Chicago Symphony Orchestra).

In recent years JGpercussion has expanded to new orchestras and ensembles – and can be found on six continents. Ultimately the goal remains the same: to be driven by the music to create the highest quality timpani mallets.

●— BB Academy 2026: presenting Nicola Carrara

Born in Bergamo, Italy, on December 11, 1989, Nicola Carrara is an accomplished timpanist and percussionist. He is the principal timpanist and percussionist at the Danish National Symphony Orchestra since 2016 and has worked with The Royal Danish Theater, Filarmonica della Scala and Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, among others.

Nicola Carrara holds a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in classical percussion from the Royal Danish Academy of Music and a Bachelor’s from the Conservatorio L. Campiani in Mantova, Italy. He also teaches timpani and percussion, conducting masterclasses and teaching privately. He is the founder of the Danish Timpani Academy and co-founder of the renowned Timpani course “Timpani Lab”.

Both the Danish Timpani Academy and Timpani Lab come from a personal desire to create a more open and inspiring musical environment. These projects are meant to bring people together, encourage sharing, and strengthen the connection between players in a meaningful and human way.

●— BB Academy 2026: presenting Bart Jansen

Bart Jansen is solo timpanist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra since January 2024. At the Rotterdam Conservatoire Bart Jansen studied percussion with Chris and Hans Leenders, Richard Jansen and Danny van de Wal. He was active as a timpani player in the Dutch National Youth Orchestra and from 2008 to 2012 in the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester.

After being accepted in 2009 in the Orchestral Percussion Class of David Searcy and Michael Quinn at Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado in Milan, his studies were mainly focused on timpani playing. Jansen pursued his masterstudies with Raymond Curfs in Munich at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater and was accepted to the Academy of the Bavarian Radio Symphonie Orchestra.

He won his first audition as solo timpani player at La Monnaie in Brussels. Shortly after he won the position of solo timpanist in the orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

As a guest, Jansen has performed with ensembles such as the World Orchestra for Peace, the Orchestra of the Bayreuther Festspiele, Orchestre de Paris, Staatskapelle Berlin, and Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks.
Working with composers such as Wolfgang Rihm, Maurizio Kagel, Sofia Gubaidulina and Krzysztof Penderecki has given shape to his vision on the modern classical repertoire.

Bart Jansen is a professor of timpani at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and a guest lecturer at Codarts Rotterdam. In addition, he leads his own very successful workshop, Picarde Timpani Products, which ships timpano sticks worldwide.

Alongside artistic development, it places strong emphasis on key areas such as management, performance psychology, physical health and instrument maintenance, nurturing both the musician and the person behind the instrument.

The fourth edition of Bodø BEAT has come to and end. In these years, the festival has grown into a showcase that captures the diversity of percussion and made us believe that this could be interesting to audiences.

We are proud that so many renown performers of these instruments have trusted us and came to the Arctic Circle. It is wonderful to see how many different people and emotions this festival has generated.

A festival is not only one week full of events, it’s a long and demanding process throughout the year that we could not do without the support of our wonderful artists, producers and partners.
