The album release day is finally here! “Angola Yangue” means “my Angola” and it’s a humble homage to my roots. It’s a selection of my favorite songs from the golden age of Angolan music from the 70-80’s. As a child of the diaspora I want to honor the language and music traditions from our ancestors.
This seed took 6 years to blossom of researching lyrics and finding out what languages they were in. This all started 11 years ago when a wish of playing angolan music was not possible since a little band of 6 musicians could not cover the musical complexity. Fast forward to 2018 when challenged me to play Angolan music from the 70’s in his club night under the moniker “Miss Tati’s Angola 70” that ignited my big wish!
I want to thank my family, friends and for the lyrics - sorry for butchering the pronunciation 😅 Big thanks to my special guest for blessing us with your beautiful trumpet playing❤️ And an even bigger thanks to my wonderful band:
