During our annual open-air film festival Roffa Mon Amour we celebrate cinematic talent from around the world, presenting films at night at a playful location. Roffa Mon Amour thrills and moves you with a selection of colourful, daring films from new and known filmmakers, live Cinema Concerts, introductions and Q&As. Roffa Mon Amour was brought to life to celebrate and enjoy the work of intelligent

, creative and noble directors that dare to challenge their audience to open their mind, to ruminate not swallow, to question never accept. Come and celebrate film with us! Roffa Mon Amour was founded by Charlotte van Zanten and Lisa Smith. It all started with a huge fondness for arthouse cinema and a lacking of diverse programming in Rotterdam which brought them together in 2012. Ever since they have supported world cinema.

Become a jury member of The New Jury! 💫

Want to have a say about films? Be part of a festival jury? Present the New Amour Award?

We are looking for youngsters (18-25 y.o) who will form The New Jury 2026. We give Rotterdam film lovers the opportunity to watch RMA films, decide which filmmaker will take home the New Amour Award, and attend workshops.

What do we offer you?
🌕 The chance to dive into the Roffa MonAmour program
🌗 Full access to the festival from Wednesday 12 August to Sunday 23 August 2026
🌘 Workshops where you learn to watch and analyze films
🌑 The possibility to host a radio show at .radio, talking about the films in competition

Did you see the sun shining and the temperatures getting higher? This means one thing only: summer is coming and so are we!

Mark your calendar because Roffa Mon Amour dates are set, and we're excited to announce that from Wednesday, 12 to Sunday, 23 August, we'll fill the Brutus garden once again with cinematic adventures to move you with a selection of colorful and daring films.

Wed 1 Apr | Roffa Mon Amour + Wereldmuseum: The African Desperate 🎨

Why should you join us on Wednesday, 1 April, for the screening of The African Desperate (2022) by at .rotterdam?

We give you at least 5 reasons:

1. The film explores themes of institutional racism, the pressures of art academia, and the search for identity in a humorous and witty way.
2. It’s a hilarious satire of pretentious white rich art school kids.
3. The film’s cinematography is rich with references to street photography, exuberant gonzo cinema, and 1990s high school romcoms.
4. Syms cited Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as a major reference for the film, drawn to its unhinged performances, bizarre worlds, and 24-hour storyline structure.

Met het voorjaar in aantocht slaan Roffa Mon Amour en opnieuw de handen ineen als onderdeel van hun Shorts-programmasamenwerking.

Van 25 t/m 27 maart is de korte film Reclaiming Dragons (2025) van doorlopend te zien in de foyer van Theater Rotterdam. Op een van de avonden wordt de vertoning gevolgd door een Q&A (in het Nederlands) met de regisseur, gemodereerd door .

Overdag werkt Ami in een saai kantoor in Rotterdam’s Nachts ontsnapt ze naar een zoete virtuele wereld als MissButterfly, prinses van een suikerspinkoninkrijk. Maar wanneer ze haar duistere alter ego EmpressDragon666ontmoet, begint de grens tussen fantasie en werkelijkheid te vervagen.

In een hypnotische spiraal van neonverlichte nachten en verschuivende identiteiten moet Ami kiezen: blijft ze gevangen in haar perfecte digitale droom, of omarmt ze het drakenvuur in zichzelf?

Een psychologische sci-fi thriller over identiteit, macht en de prijs van authenticiteit in een steeds digitalere wereld.

On Wednesday, April 1, as part of the Art She Crafted exhibition at .rotterdam, we are hosting a talk with local artists and curators on hidden routes in the arts, followed by a screening of one of our beloved festival favorites: The African Desperate (2022) by Martine Syms.

In The African Desperate (2022), the protagonist is Palace, the only Black student in a mostly white MFA program, who tries to survive graduation, awkward goodbyes, and a party she never wanted to attend in the first place. What follows is a hazy, chaotic, and often hilarious night that spirals through art school clichés, uncomfortable encounters, and moments of unexpected freedom.

Sharp, playful, and wildly unpredictable, The African Desperate delivers a satirical look at the contemporary art world while embracing joy, absurdity, and rebellion. With its bold visual style and references to street photography, gonzo cinema, and 90s teen films, it’s the kind of film that leaves you thinking: what did I just watch?
