Street art continues to transform Rotterdam's Hoogkwartier district and we are very proud to share the opening of a brand-new art route. We have been working hard to get this route done and we are very happy we got the chance to prove why we are the right party to bring art to the streets of our wonderful city. Made possible together with de BIZ and Garage Rotterdam, the route features nine original works created by Reinier Landwehr, Daniel-Michel Saptenno, Laura Ketting, Eveline Schram, Gus Eagleton, Telmo Pieper, Marije Maria, Mina Mania and Imagine876.

One of the featured works along the route is Leaning Both Ways by Telmo Pieper (of the renowned Dutch street art duo TelmoMiel). Known for blending photorealism with abstraction and surrealism, their large-scale murals explore themes of identity, human connection and everyday life through layered imagery and unexpected compositions.

Leaning Both Ways explores how we are shaped by the many versions of ourselves. We are built on past memories, experiences and lessons. The piece serves as a quiet reminder of our shared human dynamic: that we are all, at different moments, both the ones giving support and the ones needing it.

Join us for the official opening on Sunday, October 25th:

1:00 PM - Arrival
1:30 PM - Intro talks and a look at the ongoing exhibition at Garage Rotterdam
1:45 PM - Toast followed by guided tours
5:00 PM - Event conclusion

Walk through the neighborhood and discover the latest additions to the area. We hope to see you on Sunday.

One of the featured works along the route is De paringsdans van duiven by Rotterdam-based artist and muralist Eveline Schram. Known for her bold graphic shapes, vibrant colors and subtle social themes, Schram brings a positive perspective to public spaces through her art.

Inspired by a pair of courting pigeons outside her window over the summer, her new mural captures their mating dance. With pigeons serving as universal symbols of peace, the piece aims to bring light into a dark tunnel. Offering a gentle, hopeful piece of peace propaganda for the city.

One of the featured works along the route is Athena in Blue by Gus Eagleton. Inspired by pattern and detail in European architecture, Eagleton’s piece captures a perfect summer moment framed by Portuguese azulejos. It pays homage to the historical connection between Dutch workshops (including Rotterdam) and Portuguese tilecraft in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Standing before the tiled wall is Athena, a Greek figure illuminated by the morning sun and wearing a patterned top inspired by her heritage. Bringing Northern European and Mediterranean influences together, Athena in Blue is a celebration of cultural exchange, social connection and the carefree freedom of summer.

One of the featured works along the route is When the Wind Forgets Its Name by Daniël-Michel Saptenno. Saptenno creates images from a quiet search for the space between worlds, where memory meets imagination, where the visible touches the unseen and where origins move within the present. For him, art is an act of listening to stories that continue to echo across generations.

Growing from a personal history into a shared experience, When the Wind Forgets Its Name dwells on how the past continues to travel with us. Like the wind that reveals itself through what it sets in motion, the artwork explores the quiet presence of all that shapes us, reminding us that stories continue their journey and return again in new forms.

Street art continues to transform Rotterdam's Hoogkwartier district, and we are very proud to share the opening of a brand-new art route. We have been working hard to bring this project to life and show why we are the right party to bring art to the streets of our wonderful city. Made possible together with de BIZ and Garage Rotterdam, the route features nine original works created by Reinier Landwehr, Daniel-Michel Saptenno, Laura Ketting, Eveline Schram, Gus Eagleton, Telmo Pieper, Marije Maria, Mina Mania and IMAGINE876.

One of the featured artists along the route is IMAGINE876, a Nepali artist based between Nepal and Boston whose work transforms the Nepali script into contemporary painting, sculpture and public art. Rooted in Himalayan traditions, her practice bridges tradition and innovation, presenting her heritage as a living, evolving force. Her work is held in permanent collections at the Harvard Art Museums and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Her new mural for the route, titled Community Celebrations, was inspired by a recent journey to Nepal's Mustang region at nearly 13,000 feet in the Himalayas. The artwork translates the visual language of prayer flags and celebratory festival banners into an abstract landscape of color and movement. In the multicultural context of Rotterdam, these traditional symbols become a reminder that community is something we create together across landscapes, generations and cultures.

Street art continues to transform Rotterdam's Hoogkwartier district, and we are proud to share the opening of a brand-new art route. Made possible in collaboration with de BIZ and Garage Rotterdam, the route features nine original works created by Reinier Landwehr, Daniel-Michel Saptenno, Laura Ketting, Eveline Schram, Gus Eagleton, Telmo Pieper, Marije Maria, Mina Mania, and Imagine876.

One of the featured works along the route is Laura Ketting's new mural, DECODE THE STREET, located at Bredestraathof. Laura Ketting is a Rotterdam-based artist and graphic designer who explores the boundary between typography and abstraction. Using a strong black-and-white visual language across prints, motion graphics, and large-scale murals, her work transforms letters into a visual puzzle.

At first glance, DECODE THE STREET presents abstract shapes and lines. Look a little longer, and the letterforms begin to reveal themselves until you unravel the name of the location where you stand. In a city where we quickly scan images and walk by, this work asks for a second glance and invites you to pause and decode your surroundings.

Using cut-outs and stencils, Joe Iurato brings children to life in unexpected spots throughout the Lombardijen neighbourhood.

His interventions are not a single mural, but instead pop up scattered throughout the neighbourhood: on a façade, behind electricity boxes, with their little legs dangling above the water.

A black-and-white colour palette, with the occasional deliberate splash of colour, and his combination of realistic and illustrative styles complete the playful scene. We see children clambering, peering out and standing ready with spray cans. The figures draw your attention to details in the street scene that you would normally overlook.

In this way, Joe also gives centre stage to children: to their curiosity, their mischief and their uninhibited view of the world around them. A little boy embraces the world, a gesture that lends the playfulness of the whole scene a warm, hopeful undertone.
In total, Joe hid 18 little works of art throughout Lombardijen.

Can you spot them all?
