For this edition of Pocket Concerts, Benjamin Herman was joined by bassist Thomas Pol and drummer, composer and producer Jimmi Jo Hueting for an intimate trio performance driven by curiosity, improvisation and a musical connection built over years of playing together.

A defining figure in Dutch jazz for more than three decades and recipient of the 2024 Edison Jazz Oeuvre Award, Herman has built a career moving freely between jazz, punk, soul, rock and experimental music. Alongside him, Pol brings a wide-ranging musical background spanning jazz and classical music, while Hueting — winner of the Erasmus Jazz Award 2015 and the force behind Jo Goes Hunting — moves between drumming, composition, production and electronic music.

Their latest collaboration, The Tokyo Sessions, was released in 2026. Produced by Hueting and recorded in Tokyo, the album reflects Herman’s long-standing connection with Japan and its rich musical culture.

As one of the closing acts of this year’s Grachtenfestival, Reinier Baas and the NJJO presented Opus Kaleidoskopus in the garden of the H’ART Museum in Amsterdam.

Under the guidance of guitarist, composer and multiple Edison Award winner Reinier Baas, sixteen young talents came together as part of the NJJO’s two-year coaching programme, joined for this special performance by drummer Jamie Peet.

The orchestra brought a surprisingly danceable programme to the garden, featuring music by progressive artists such as Fuensanta, Petter Eldh, Genevieve Artadi and Misha Mengelberg, alongside some of Baas’ own work in new arrangements. Improvisation met influences from across genres, bringing the evening — and Grachtenfestival — towards its final days on an adventurous note.

Four musicians, four distinct musical backgrounds, and a shared space for exploration. For this edition of Pocket Concerts, Dareyn brings together tradition, improvisation and contemporary expression in an intimate musical conversation.

Featuring Emine Bostancı on kemenche, Franz von Chossy on piano, Alex Simu on clarinet and Visent Planjer on percussion, the quartet draws from jazz, classical music and musical traditions of the Eastern Mediterranean and beyond. Through carefully crafted compositions and spontaneous interaction, each musician brings their own voice while leaving space for the unexpected.

Kika Sprangers is set to tour her new choir project HERA this September, bringing it to churches across the Netherlands.

Stripped back to just saxophone and choir, HERA sees Kika return to the core of her music: colorful melancholy that enriches, stills and moves. Her lyrical saxophone merges with nine female voices through the unique acoustics of each church — entirely acoustic, with nothing but sound, audience and space.
