For our latest edition of Pocket Concerts, we were honored to welcome pianist and composer Xavi Torres to the studio.

Born in Tarragona and based between Amsterdam and Paris, Torres has become one of Europe’s most distinctive piano voices, blending the precision of classical music with the freedom and spontaneity of jazz. In this intimate solo performance, his playing moves effortlessly between lyricism, rhythmic play and improvisation — always deeply expressive and alive.

Apart from his own Trio and Quartet gigs, Xavi can be seen on stage with artists such as Irene Reig, Sam Newbould, and Bernard Van Rossum Flamenco Big Band throughout the coming months.

In December 1996, a young Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw shook up the old BIMHUIS with a fresh and contemporary sound. Nearly thirty years later, the orchestra returns to where it all began for two special anniversary concerts on May 16 and 17.

Celebrated by All About Jazz as a “world-class orchestra,” the JOC has shared the stage with artists including Chick Corea, Branford Marsalis, Dr. Lonnie Smith and Oleta Adams. These anniversary concerts — The Jazz Influencers XL — bring together influential voices from past and present, with guests including Brandee Younger, Benjamin Herman, Ella Zirina and Joep Grotendorst.

Afro Anatolian Tales is heading out on an international tour in 2026, bringing their genre-crossing sound to stages across the Netherlands, India, Italy, Portugal, Jordan and Egypt.

Led by Dutch-Turkish percussionist Sjahin During, the ensemble features Burak Savaş (vocals, violin, tanbur), Bence Huszar (cello & soundscapes) and Antonio Moreno (synthesizer, trumpet). Together, they weave musical traditions from across the Silk Road with contemporary sounds and improvisation, creating a rich and immersive sonic landscape.

With their new production Tarab Dance, the group continues to explore a musical dialogue between East and West. As Songlines Magazine put it in their 5-star review: “a fascinating and contemplative musical journey.”
