InScience would like to congratulate Alison McAlpine! Her film Perfectly a Strangeness is nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Film, to be awarded on March 15.

The film was part of the InShort Competition at InScience in 2025. Alison previously joined the festival in 2018 with her film Cielo, and we’re happy to see her work recognized on this stage.

The film takes place in the dazzling incandescence of an unknown desert, where three donkeys discover an abandoned astronomical observatory and the universe. A sensorial, cinematic exploration of what a story can be.

We wish Alison the best of luck at the Oscars. 🍀

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 🏆

During the eleventh edition of InScience Film Festival in Nijmegen, several inspiring science films received the prestigious InScience Awards.

The InLab International Jury Award went to The Big Everything by Aminatou Echard, with an honourable mention for Harper’s Lost for Words by Hannah Papacek. The InSights NTR Audience Award was awarded to My Word Against Mine by Maasja Ooms. The InShort Student Jury Award went to Psychonauts by Niko Radaš, praised for its originality, strong artistic vision, and the powerful connection between its aesthetic choices and message.

On Sunday, the Klokhuis Wetenschapsprijs 2026 was also awarded to the research project Hand in Hand tegen de spanning during a ceremony at the Bibliotheek Mariënburg.

The festival continues with a satellite edition at Visum Mundi in Wageningen from 12–15 March. So if you missed a film, make sure to check it out here.

En de winnaar van de Klokhuis Wetenschapsprijs 2026 is… 🍏

Het onderzoek ‘Hand in hand tegen spanning’. De winnaar werd vandaag op 8 maart bekendgemaakt door Klokhuispresentator Tirsa With tijdens ons InScience Film Festival.

Het onderzoek wordt uitgevoerd door leden van de Dutch Touch Society, een onderzoeksgroep verbonden aan verschillende universiteiten in Nederland.

Uit tientallen inzendingen werd een shortlist van tien onderzoeken geselecteerd. Daarna brachten meer dan 8.500 kinderen van 9 tot 12 jaar hun stem uit op hun favoriete onderzoek.

Het winnende project onderzoekt hoe aanraking kan helpen tegen spanning. Waarom voelen we ons rustiger als iemand onze hand vasthoudt? Maakt het uit of die persoon iemand is die we kennen? En kan een knuffelrobot misschien hetzelfde effect hebben?

Met dit onderzoek wil de Dutch Touch Society beter begrijpen welke vorm van aanraking het beste helpt wanneer we ons gespannen voelen en of dat voor iedereen anders werkt.

InScience wishes you a happy International Women's Day! 🩷

Today we celebrate women everywhere. The ones who question, create, imagine and refuse to accept the world as it is. The ones who open doors for others. Like Aletta Jacobs, the first woman in the Netherlands to study at a university. She refused to accept that knowledge and opportunity were not meant for women and changed the path for generations that followed.

At our festival we celebrate that same spirit: women who question, create and tell stories (in science) that move the world forward.
