🎹 Faculty Spotlight | Justas Čeponis

We are delighted to welcome Justas Čeponis, Lithuanian pianist and opera répétiteur, to the Netherlands Lyric Opera Festival.

Currently on staff at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, Justas has collaborated with internationally acclaimed artists including Asmik Grigorian, Olga Peretyatko, Vida Miknevičiūtė, and Edgaras Montvidas, and has worked alongside distinguished conductors such as Sesto Quatrini and Otto Tausk.

He has appeared as piano soloist in Angelin Preljocaj’s ballet Le Parc and maintains an active freelance career in the Netherlands, collaborating with Nederlandse Reisopera and Opera Zuid.

A graduate of the Paris Conservatory (CNSMDP), Justas brings exceptional musical sensitivity, stylistic depth, and international experience to NLO 2026.

We are thrilled to have him on faculty.

🎶 Faculty Spotlight: Federico Santi

Associate Conductor of the Opéra Grand Avignon, Federico Santi is internationally recognized for his precision, musical sensitivity, and inspiring leadership on the podium.

With a global career spanning major houses from Amsterdam to Tokyo and Mexico City, long-standing collaborations with the Mariinsky Theatre, and 50+ operas in repertoire, he brings exceptional depth in Italian bel canto, symphonic repertoire, and contemporary works.

Maestro Santi also serves as Opera Coordinator and conducting professor at the Conservatorium Maastricht, mentoring the next generation of artists — a perfect fit for the NLO faculty.

We are proud to have acclaimed Belgian stage director and current Opera Zuid Intendant, Waut Koeken as part of our artistic team at the Netherlands Lyric Opera Festival.

With a career spanning Europe’s most prestigious opera houses — including La Monnaie, Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg, Opéra National du Rhin, Wiener Kammeroper, and the Vienna State Opera — Koeken brings world-class theatrical expertise.

His work includes the world premiere of La Strada, Opernwelt “Director of the Year” nominations for Offenbach’s La vie parisienne, and major productions of Strauss’ Salome, Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera, La Bohème, Die Fledermaus, and numerous internationally touring revivals. His Vienna State Opera debut (Die Feen) was released on DVD, and his leadership as Artistic & General Manager of Opera Zuid led the company to win Opera of the Year (NL) and earned him the Schaunard Award for artistic courage and innovation.

At NLO, singers don’t just perform — they work side-by-side with and learn from artists shaping the European operatic landscape today.
