The Flower Days in Limmen will take place in 2026 from Saturday, April 18 to Wednesday, April 22. During this event, residents transform their gardens into an open-air gallery featuring beautiful mosaics and artworks made from thousands of hyacinths. This colorful spectacle attracts a large crowd in the polder every year.
Saturday, April 18 is the opening day of the Flower Days. From 10:00 AM, the mosaics can be admired in the residents' gardens.
Sunday, April 19
In addition to the mosaics, a Classic Car Fair will be organized on Sunday in the park at the Vuurbaak. Starting at 11:00 AM.
In any case, the Limmen Fire Department, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, will give demonstrations, and beautiful old fire trucks will be on display.
The mosaics can be admired until Wednesday, April 22.
How are the mosaics made?
The hyacinth flowers (nails) are processed in various ways. With the traditional technique, you place the nails loosely on a sloping platform, known as a "beun." You can also pierce the nails with pins onto Styrofoam or glue them into mesh structures so that the pieces can stand upright. This also creates three-dimensional objects that sometimes reach gutter height. Using mesh, rebar, and even electric motors, participants sometimes create moving objects.
Tens of thousands of nails are easily incorporated into a single piece. Because the flowers remain fresh for a maximum of two weeks, depending on the weather, they must be processed by a large number of people over a few days and nights. Often, the pieces are made by families, associations, groups of friends, or residents of an entire street. The photos are, of course, from previous years.
