Van vrijdag tot en met zondag zijn de wereldkampioenschappen coastalroeien. In het Portugese Oeiras doen drie skiffeurs mee: Koen Metsemakers, Obbe Tibben en Guus Mollee. De laatste twee gaan samen tevens in een dubbeltwee. Ook een vrouwendubbeltwee wordt afgevaardigd. Voormalig lichtgewicht Tibben....

The weekend is almost here and it will be a busy one too!

🚣🏻‍♀️ The 64th South Coast Rowing Championships 2021 will be taking place in Southampton.

🚣🏻‍♀️ Rowers of all kinds will be taking to the water of Loch Ness for Monster the Loch

🚣🏻‍♀️ St Ayles Skiff rowers will continue the batons journey around Scotland for the RowAround Scotland 2021 celebrating Scottish Coastal Rowing Association’s 10th Anniversary.

🚣🏻‍♀️ The coastal scullers will be getting some last minute training in prior to next weekends Worlds in Portugal at the South West Coastal Rowing League ‘Muddy Rubble’ regatta in Plymouth hosted by Mayflower Offshore Rowing Club

🚣🏻‍♀️ Various clubs across the country will be training for, hosting and attending their own events and competitions.

🚣🏻‍♀️ The ocean rowers will be squeezing some last on the water training for before some boats start to get sent away for shipping to La Gomera ready for December’s start of the Atlantic Campaigns Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge

Zojuist hebben we als organisatie, in overleg met de IJmuider reddingsbrigade (IJRB), besloten de wedstrijd af te gelasten. Naar aanleiding van de nu heersende en zaterdag verwachte weersomstandigheden hebben we vanmiddag samen met de IJRB vastgesteld hoe de situatie ter plekke is. Wat we daar aantroffen viel ons niet mee. De harde noordenwind (5bft) zorgt voor flinke golven van nu anderhalve meter en een sterke stroming parallel aan de kust. Met name de zeer hoge golven die breken wat verder uit de kust baren ons grote zorgen. Deze golven liggen midden in de endurance baan en in deze omstandigheden kunnen wij de veiligheid van deelnemers en materiaal niet garanderen. Omdat de verwachting is dat de situatie op zaterdag niet of slechts minimaal verbeterd zal zijn rest ons geen andere keuze dan de wedstrijd af te gelasten.
