The year 2021 has been declared the Brabant Monastery Year in the Netherlands. The celebration is represented with all kinds of festive activities, books and publications, exhibitions, a special walking path, fifty monastery sites, and souvenirs specially created for the 15 selected monasteries.

Designer Daria Biryukova researches circular applications of materials and slate production. At the moment, slates for the restoration of monuments are still made from newly extracted slate, which is then shipped all over the world. Biryukova's slate consists of geopolymers and residual material from natural slate production. Her research is part of SlotLab, an IBA Parkstad project at Slot Schaesberg (Landgraaf)
led by Machiel Spaan and Simone de Waart.

Slotlab was an initiative by M3H Architects and Material Sense and is a project that revolved around the plans to rebuild Slot Schaesberg, the ruins of a Dutch medieval castle in South-Limburg. At StoneCycling, we focus on creating sustainable building materials without compromising on the aesthetics. Glazed bricks have long been on our minds. We’re already fond of our Shine series of WasteBasedBricks®. The special top layer that we developed from recycled materials is a real eye-catcher for the façade or interior wall cladding.⁣

That’s why we decided to expand our Shine collection with a series of innovative waste-based-glazing. And since we believe in the strength of collaboration with industry specialists, we teamed up with Studio Mixtura, one of the most exciting new experts in this field.⁣

Official opening of Kloosterjaar Brabant will take place 10 February at 14.00 o'clock. Studio Mixtura was commissioned to design 3 Klooster Iconen for Klooster Nazareth in Oirschoot, Klooster Mariënhage in Eindhoven and Pelgrimshoeve Kafarnaüm in Vessem. Soon the presentation of the souvenirs!
