During Ellen Lupton’s masterclass, her group worked with materials you wouldn’t immediately associate with graphic design: using colourful icing, the participants wrote quotes on paper. They then photographed their favourite pieces and digitally edited them into a poster. How sweet! 🍭🍰🍬

Erich Brechbühl [Mixer]’s Summer School masterclass explored the relationship between content and meaning. Inspired by the content and atmosphere of a film, participants were challenged to design an alternative typographic film poster. 🍿

During Anthony Burrill’s Summer School masterclass, the floor and tables were strewn with paper cuttings and loose letters. ✂️

Participants made posters featuring contrasting words. On the second day, the class came up with the idea of bringing the various pieces together in a zine, turning it into a collaborative final project.

A new academic year also means the Student Challenge is back! The first kick-off sessions are taking place this week. Inspired by this year’s theme STICK IT!, students dive into the world of event posters and explore how to make an impact with a single design.

Summer School 2026 was all about posters. Centred around the theme Does it stick?, 50 participants from various countries took part in masterclasses led by Erich Brechbühl [Mixer], Anthony Burrill and Ellen Lupton.
