On Monday, don’t miss the last Impro Jam of the season, this time at Onderbuik, a former command bunker in Utrecht!

This edition will be hosted together with BUI, a collective that is both an ensemble and a group of organizers committed to adventurous music and art.

Impro Jam weaves into their Freeplay Sessions and we’ll start early with a working session: a slightly more in depth playing together, working on questions and ideas around improvisation. After a soup together, we continue with the Impro Jam night!

BUI members Elsa van der Linden and Lucas Kloosterboer will perform as part of the initial group together with Felicity Provan and Ada Rave.

About the Impro Jam 🎲 it’s a meeting point to explore free improvisation and experimental music through collaboration, curiosity, and spontaneous music-making. Initiated in 2014 by saxophonist Ada Rave, each event starts with an initial group of artists, then other musicians are welcome to join with their instrument and jam on stage. Bring your instruments, dancers welcome!

This Friday, 26 June, don’t miss INterSECTion, organised by our friend Beatrice Sberna 🐞 the line-up also includes mundu lawaai (this year’s SITProduction) 🪲

INterSECTion is a multidisciplinary evening bringing together artists with strong and distinctive identities, weaving together sound, storytelling, improvisation, and experimentation. Driven by a belief in a new underground, the event creates space for unexpected encounters and voices that are rarely heard.
Moving across indie, jazz, Italian songwriting, noise, global rhythms, and club culture, the programme explores a wide emotional spectrum — from dreamy and intimate to raw, provocative, and theatrical — culminating in a collective dance experience.
The lineup features the dreamy Berlin-based duo Lail & Lomar, unfiltered Italian vocalist and performer Beatrice Sberna, and Mundu Lawaai, whose genre-defying sound blends layered percussion, live dub, rap, and global musical influences.

On Monday, we’re hosting a special edition of the Impro Jam in BIMHUIS Café!

The trio Muchmo will kick off the evening: spoken word, woodwinds, prepared and processed pianos, synthezisers create a sonic world in which unconditional sonic improvisation collides with formal multilingual composition. They will be joined by exceptional dancer and coreographer Kenzo Kusuda (in the clip).

mundu lawaai goes to Roffa 📣 On Friday 3 July, Space is the Place, North Sea Round Town and WORM host 3 groundbreaking performances!

Led by Gabriel de Oliveira, mundu lawaai seeks the sound of a global generation in electric song-beats that blend layered drums, live dub, and rapping. A decisively urban club band, their urgent noise reflects a need for collective improvisation facing post-coloniality and mass media consumption, and a reality where not even baile funk and Balinese gamelan can escape virtual dialogue.

The eclectic lineup also features the trio of Milana Zaric, Aurelié Nyirabikali Lierman and Lucija Gregov, and North Sea Round Town’s Artist in Focus 2026 Chaerin Im, with her live electronics group Neon River. Expect an evening where jazz, electronics, and improvisation merge in unpredictable ways.

On Sunday, 14 June, don’t miss Traaffic Triangle live in the beautiful concert hall of the Goethe-Institut

Traaffic Triangle is an improvisational ecosystem with prepared-piano and electronics, drums and a 3CD player that explores triangular interaction in which performers are “electronically” linked.

Starting on Friday, Tanine Kian (prepared-piano, live electronics), Ruggero di Luisi (drums, live electronics) & Nadia (3CD player, live electronics) will be working in the concert hall, as artists selected from Raumte, the residency hosted by SITP x Goethe-Institut. For the residency, they will create 3 different CDs for each day, with raw improvisation material. They use it to guide their journey through the concert.

Individual roles dissolve into a single living sound body, while the spatial approach treats them seriously as individual voices. This contradiction is used to reinforce a sense of disorientation and give greater presence to the movement of sound in space.

How can improvised music hold past, present, and future at once, and what does it feel like to be lost inside that?

Tomorrow, warming up OCCII before Moor Mother: James McClure & João Guerra 🎺🥁

An ongoing conversation between friends. Forever searching, forever learning, the trumpet-drums duo moves with love and intention through uneasy conversations in hopes of change. The music is an extension of their relationship, a continuation of dialogue, listening, and shared exploration. Alongside the duo, they are also bandmates in SOFAYA, an ensemble centered around South African music and heritage.

Tonight! As you walk into BIMHUIS Café, you’ll find our Ernst Gleam playing a number of Misha Mengelberg compositions that he has not previously performed in piano.

Mainly known as a double bassist and a member of the legendary ICP Orchestra (co-founded by Han Bennink and Misha Mengelberg) Gleam will return as our prestigious bar pianist for An Intergalactic Night. This is a special edition part of Misha Kosmos Festival (May 25 – June 7). The festival honors and celebrates the wacky and wonderful musical world of composer, pianist and philosopher Misha Mengelberg (1935 – 2017).

The night continues with an extraordinary line-up: Terrie Ex & Emma Fischer | Meis Vranken | Beatrice Sberna & friends
