IKPEAZU FLAGS OFF GRASSROOT BOXING TALENT HUNT

The administration of Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu which has so far excelled in grassroot sports development Thursday took a bold step in the discovery of budding pugilists when it flagged off the maiden Abia State Catch Them Young Grassroot Boxing Talent Hunt.
Performing the flag off on behalf of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu at the Umuahia Township Stadium,the Permanent secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Elder Ikpeoha Friday, commended Abia state-born boxing icon,Mr Ikechukwu Okoronkwo for collaborating with the state government in the new initiative to produce boxing champions in the state for national and international competitions.
Elder Ikpeoha assured that the ministry would not relent in its support for boxing and would always channel all necessary requests to the governor for the required logistics assistance to develope the sport
Also speaking, the immediate past Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Chief Emeka George Ikwuagwu,said he encouraged Mr Ikechukwu Okoronkwo to be made Abia State Boxing Ambassador and a partner in grassroot boxing development inorder to carry out Governor Okezie Ikpeazu's mandate to the ministry to develope other sports alongside football. He charged The sports ministry and the sports council to make maximum use of the collaboration with the boxing legend to put Abia State in national and global boxing map.
Mr Ikechukwu Okoronkwo who was the first boxer to win gold for Abia State when he emerged champion at the National Boxing Championship in Lagos in 1992 said he decided to bring his expertise and resources to develope boxing in Abia State because there's no place like home , adding that the grassroot sports development drive of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu deserves the support of all.
The Arochukwu-born boxing ace said that he would not rest until Abia became the boxing destination of Nigeria.

ABIA GOVERNOR'S CUP REVEALS BUDDING TALENTS, AS OHAFIA,UKWA EAST WIN BIG

Abia Governor's Cup competition made a thrilling return in the new year at the Umuahia Township Stadium Monday 11th January 2021 as two first round matches produced seven goals and some exciting budding talents.
After the usual screening formalities conducted by Ejikeme Ikwunze a.k.a Mr Football and supervised by tournament's Committee Chairman, Sir P. C. Mba with the commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Chief Emeka George Ikwuagwu, and other Committee members watching, Ohafia boys traunsed their Ugwunagbor counterparts 2. 0 with rising star ,Ogbo Obasi scoring both goals in the 17th and 22nd minutes.
Ebuka Nnadede became the first hat- trick hero of the tournament when he netted three times for Ukwa East in their 4. 1 thrashing of Arochukwu with Darlington Chibuzor accounting one goal while Chinedum Okoro scored the consolatory goal for the Long Juju boys.
Sir PC Mba expressed satisfaction that a lot of talents were being unearthed in the competition in line with Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu's aim in floating the competition and commended the high level of discipline exhibited by the competing Local Governments.
The Governor's Cup matches continue Tuesday 12th January with Aba South taking on Ukwa West before Isuikwuato and Obingwa square up later in the day..
On January 18 Ohafia will take on Ukwa East in one of the quarter final matches.
