JUMAH MUBARAK
Can a muslim be buried in the compound of the house he built?
Burying a Muslim in the compound of his own house is discouraged and contrary to the established Sunnah, though it is considered technically permissible only in cases of necessity (such as when a public graveyard is completely unavailable).
When it is asked why the Prophet Muhammad was buried in the room of his wife ‘Aishah (his house), ‘Aishah explained:
_“That was only done lest his grave be taken as a place of worship.”_
(Narrated by al-Bukhaari)
Scholars clarify that this exception was unique to the Prophets (who are buried where they die) and was done under specific safeguards to protect his grave and prevent people from venerating it.
The established Sunnah is to bury the deceased in designated public graveyards—such as al-Baqee' in Medina—rather than inside residential living spaces.
May we live to witness many more years of Jumah in good health, prosperity and happiness, Aamin.
