EASTER MESSAGE FROM SENATE LEADER, SEN. MICHAEL OPEYEMI BAMIDELE, CON

As we celebrate Easter, I urge Christians in Ekiti State and across Nigeria to reflect on the true meaning of the season — love, sacrifice, unity, peace, and hope.

At this critical time in our nation, we must reject division, bitterness, and despair, and instead embrace faith, tolerance, collective responsibility, and prayers for Nigeria.

The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ remind us that light will always overcome darkness, and hope will always triumph over fear.

Let us use this season to pray for:

Peace and stability in Nigeria

Wisdom for our leaders

Strength and comfort for citizens

Greater unity and national progress

I also encourage all Christians to celebrate with moderation, humility, gratitude, and compassion, in line with the teachings of Christ.

Together, with faith, sacrifice, and unity of purpose, Nigeria will overcome and emerge stronger.

Happy Easter to the people of Ekiti Central, Ekiti State, and all Nigerians.

TODAY IN HISTORY
The Condemnation of Jesus of Nazareth

In Jerusalem during the early first century CE, Jesus of Nazareth was examined by the Jewish religious authorities and accused on charges linked to blasphemy. He was thereafter handed over to the Roman prefect, Pontius Pilate, who authorized his ex*****on by crucifixion.

The event stands at the intersection of Roman law, Jewish religious authority, and the origins of Christianity.

The First Good Friday ✝️

The first Good Friday was the day love bled for humanity.
Jesus of Nazareth was accused of blasphemy by the Jewish religious leaders because He declared Himself to be the Son of God and the promised Messiah. Yet, unknown to them, He was the very One spoken of by Moses, Isaiah, David, and the prophets of old.
He came not to condemn the world, but to save it.
He was mocked, rejected, beaten, and crucified — not because He was guilty, but because we were.
He bore our sorrow.
He carried our pain.
He took our shame.
He paid the price for our sins.
As the Scripture says:
“He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.”
— Isaiah 53:5
Good Friday is called good because through His suffering came our salvation, through His blood came our redemption, and through His death came our hope of eternal life.
He died because He first loved us.
And because He loved us first, we now have access to grace, mercy, forgiveness, healing, and eternal life.
Today, we remember the cross not as a symbol of defeat, but as the greatest victory of love.
Jesus was accused like a criminal, but He died like a Saviour.
He was condemned by men, but crowned by Heaven.
Happy Good Friday to you and your family.
May the sacrifice of Christ never be forgotten in our hearts.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO PROF.BANJI AKINTOYE @91

By Femi Alufa
Professor Banji Akintoye at 91 represents a rare fusion of scholarship, statesmanship, and cultural guardianship. Widely respected as a historian and intellectual, he has spent decades shaping how Yoruba history and identity are understood, both within Nigeria and globally.

His academic work, marked by clarity and depth, helped elevate African historical studies at a time when indigenous perspectives struggled for recognition. Beyond the classroom and the written page, Akintoye became known for insisting that history is not merely about the past but a compass for collective dignity and political consciousness.

Equally defining has been his public life. In national discourse, he emerged as a voice of conviction, unafraid to engage controversial questions about governance, federalism, and self-determination. Admirers view him as a custodian of cultural memory and political principle, someone who frames advocacy not as agitation but as a continuation of historical responsibility. Even critics acknowledge the consistency and intellectual grounding of his positions, traits increasingly scarce in modern political culture.

At 91, Akintoye’s longevity itself carries symbolic weight. It reflects not only personal resilience but the enduring relevance of ideas forged through study, reflection, and experience. His life illustrates how intellectual leadership can transcend generations, reminding younger Africans that rigorous thought, cultural literacy, and civic courage are mutually reinforcing. In this sense, Professor Akintoye’s legacy is still unfolding - not confined to his years, but extended through the conversations and consciousness he continues to inspire.

Happy birthday dear Daddy, may your strength be firm.
