*overconfident Eagles surprised by purposeful Bafana* By Captain Waritz
The super eagles yesterday started the match too confidently, when you are playing at home and have not lost for a while , you've got to be careful not to be too convenient.
It was obvious from the start in the way bafana were playing a heavy metal, they already knew they just have to run more and force mistakes from super eagles,
The first half saw most of the activities happened in the middle with either sides not creating enough chances to stake a claim on the match, though the super eagles were the better side playing out from deep, they seem to lack rhyme in the attacking third, the midfield trio of Onazi, Ndidi and Etebo was just not working, the three prefer playing a deep lying midfield playmaking role, that explains why the super eagles play like a well oiled engine when deep buh loose their rhyme higher up the pitch. kelechi ihanacho couldn't do much from long balls supplied from his midfield as the passes were mostly over-hit, he tapered off in the second half and was removed. Etebo had a perfect chance to take the lead for the eagles in the first half courtesy of a good cross from ihanacho. That turned out to be the only clear cut for the eagles through out the whole game as they failed to muster up another real goal scoring chance for the rest of the match. Alex Iwobi was lifely down the left in the first half but was anonymous before taken off in the second. Bafana on the other hand, unlucky in the first half hitting the woodwork were brimming with confidence after scoring a goal which our central defence did too little to prevent, the super eagles started trying too hard to force proceedings as they completely relied on Onazi playing Long balls forward, a move they couldn't cause any danger to bafana defence from. Moses simeon, moved to the left in the second half was the eagles real treat to bafana's defence, Rohr's decision to bring in musa to give a added treat turned out being a wrong one as it meant moses shifting to the right for musa who couldn't complete a take-on throughout the match.
In the end, it was bafana who scored again courtesy of a counter, perfectly capitalizing on super eagles desperately trying to find the equaliser.
It ended in a disappointing way for the eagles who now face another danger of missing out on the Africa maiden tournament for a third time in a row.
