The second edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women's Football Tournament is a few hours away from kick off and all things are set for the tournament with the draws taking place at 6 pm Wednesday September 7 at the New Festival Hall, Edo State government house, Benin City.

Here is the outlined procedure for the draws.

Second Edition of Betsy Obaseki Women's Football Tournament - Draws Procedure

The draw for the second edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women's Football Tournament takes place at the New Festival Hall, Edo State Government House, Benin City, on Wednesday from 6 PM, WAT.

Seeded clubs
Four teams, based on their league's strength are seeded: Edo Queens, Naija Ratels, Delta Queens, and Nasarawa Amazons.

Unseeded clubs
Unseeded clubs are the teams with a lesser performance at the first edition and first-timers in the competition: Royaltoms International FC, Braveheart Ladies FC, Fortress Ladies FC, Royal Queens FC, Osun Babes FC, FC Robo, Confluence Queens FC, Sunshine Queens FC, Heartland Queens FC.

Further conditions

Clubs from the same state will not be drawn against each other in the group stage. By this, Edo Queens FC, Braveheart Ladies FC and Fortress Ladies FC from Edo State will not be grouped. Also, FC Robo and Royaltoms International FC from Lagos will not be grouped and the two teams from Delta state, Delta Queens and Royal Queens will avoid each other.

Since there are 13 teams in the competition, a group will have 4 teams while three other groups will have 3 teams each.

Two teams each for the 4 groups will progress to the quarter-finals.

Under the draw procedure, 4 red balls containing the seeded teams and 4 red balls containing groups will be placed - A1, B1, C1 AND D1.

9 red balls containing the names of the Unseeded teams are placed in a bowl. Nine group numbers are also placed in another 9 balls to determine which groups the teams will be grouped in.

Group matches start on Thursday, September 8, 2022.

The stage is set for the second edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament as the Organizers have announced Wednesday, September 7, 2022, as the new date for the second edition of the money-spinning invitational tournament and declared maximum readiness to host yet another exciting women’s football tournament.

The draws will take place at the new Festival Hall, Edo State Government House, Benin City.

The tournament will see 10 Premiership teams and 2 Nationwide clubs – beyond battling for the grand prize – use their platform to preach against “Drug Abuse” – a central theme of the tournament.

It would be recalled that the draw was earlier scheduled for August 24, 2022, according to the tournament’s planning committee general secretary, Mrs Sabina Chikere, the draw was postponed after revisiting the plans and programs of the tournament and reaching conclusions on postponing the draws to the arrival date.

“We had necessary meetings and deliberation and concluded that it will be in the good of everyone involved in this to have the draws postponed till a later date.”

“To make things convenient for everyone and make the eve of the tournament more glamorous to the last edition, we decided to shift the date till the arrival date for all Participating teams – September 7, 2022.”

The soft-spoken administrator however assures all fans and women football faithful of a well-planned tournament that will beat the imagination of many.

“Everything is in place for the tournament as we anticipate the arrivals of teams from tomorrow, Monday.”

The first edition of Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament was won by Bayelsa Queens after defeating Rivers Angels via kicks from the penalty mark in the final at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
