TER GWER II UNITY CUP COMPETITION KICKS OFF IN EARNEST
The 4th Edition of the Ter Gwer II Unity Football Cup Competition officially kicked off today with an opening ceremony held at the Mt. St. Michael’s Secondary School football pitch, Aliade.
The competition - an annual event initiated and sponsored by Dr. Terry Atoba - aims to provide a platform for youths across the local government area to showcase their football talents, promote peace, and strengthen unity among communities.
This year’s tournament features eight teams: Holy Cross FC, Ikpayongo; Njiriv United FC, Taraku; Mase FC, Mase; Snipers FC, Aliade; Standard FC, Aliade; Divine Stars FC, Aliade; Eastern Kings FC, Aliade; and Vipers FC, Abenga.
In today’s opening fixture, Standard FC of Aliade faced Divine Stars FC in a tightly contested encounter that remained goalless until a late strike from Standard FC sealed a 1–0 victory for the home side.
Before kickoff, HRH Chief (Dr.) Dominic Ortserga Akpe, Ter Gwer II, urged youths with footballing talents to take full advantage of the opportunities presented by the tournament to project their abilities. He expressed deep appreciation to the initiator, Dr. Atoba, for his commitment and generosity, while acknowledging his consistent philanthropy.
Also speaking at a separate forum, the cup donor and initiator, Dr. Terry Atoba, reaffirmed his determination to sustain the competition over the years through continued sponsorship.
This year’s edition promises exciting rewards, as winners will take home substantial cash prizes, outstanding players and fans will receive special packages, and the best coaches will benefit from an all-expense-paid professional coaching training.

Njiriv United FC will take on Vipers FC at the famous *St. Patrick’s Taraku Playground* by 3:30 pm.
*Match Day 3 – Tuesday, 09/12/2025*
Snipers FC will face Eastern Kings FC at the *Aliade Township Stadium* by 3:30 pm.
