NPFL MATCHDAY THIRTY-ONE

As the Npfl 2025/2026 season get to it last phase, the technical adviser Nasarawa United FC Ayuba Mbwas has again assured fans of the solid miners of a happy ending. In an interview with newsmen after recording the teams' highest victory of the season so far against former champions and table toppers Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt.

Three first half goals and a goal in the second half put the solid miners back in the fight for the trophy.

"Every team from number one to seven position can win the league looking at the standing, so we are here and assuring our fans that the end of the season will be a good one for us, said the elated" Mbwas.

Securing a convincing 4-1 win over Rivers United is a thing of joy, hence we must appreciate the boys for playing to instructions. We were with the Governor some days ago where he speak on our scoring ability and today the boys has proven that we can do better, if we had converted all the chances we would have scored more than eight goals.

The Solid Miners dominated the game, striking early with goals from Ngei Oluka-Efor in the 3rd minute and Abubakar Abdullahi three minutes later before Chimezie Victor added a third goal in the 15th minute, JoFrank Istifanus goal after the break in the 58th minute left Rivers United struggling.

Meanwhile a goal from Taiwo Abdulrafiu in the 24th minute not enough for the pride of Rivers as the game ended 4-1 at the Lafia city stadium on Monday 23 March 2026.

Nasarawa United with this victory moves to third place with 50 points, while Rivers United drop to second with 52 points after 31 matches each just as Enugu Rangers lead the table with 54 points in thirty one matches as well.

Nasarawa United next move to Lagos to take Kwara United of Ilorin in the matchday 32.

NWFL 2025/26 MATCHDAY NINE. LAFIA LANDLADY'S REIGN SUPREME.

Nasarawa Amazons Set Sights on Super Six as Regular Season Enters Second Round. In a captivating display of dominance, two of the top three teams in Group B of the 2025/2026 NWFL season clashed at the Lafia City Stadium on Wednesday, 25th February 2026.

The fixture, one of the final matches of the first round, ended in a six-goal thriller, with Amazons showcasing their attacking prowess over Group B leaders, Robo Queens of Lagos. Playing on their home turf, Nasarawa Amazons dominated the game with clinical finishes and mesmerizing dribbles, entertaining the buzzing fans at the Lafia City Stadium.

Sunday Ohunene opened the scoring in the early minutes, setting the tone for a dominant first half.

The visitors through Joy Iortyom pulled one back in the 14th, but Ayatsea Hembafan again put Nasarawa ahead two minutes later. Jumoke Alani added a third before half-time, capitalizing on a defensive lapses from Robo's backline.

Bibiana Odoh added a fourth just after the restart, putting the game far from Robo Queens' reach. But Rafiu Tosin scored what may look like a consolation goal for the Lagos-based side in the 76th minute to put the game at Four-Two.

The victory sees Amazons with 18 points same as Remo which also won against Dannaz Ladies in Lagos. While Robo Queens still lead the group B with 21 points.

Coach Christopher Danjuma of Nasarawa Amazons praised the performance of his team, stating that the girls are adjusting from the emergency break the league observed for three weeks. He expressed hope for a strong finish.

Chairperson of Nasarawa Amazons Hajiya Hussaina Suleiman Nagogo stated that the team's target is to play in the Super Six and qualify for the continental tournament.

Other results from the nineteen-team, two-group league, include Confluence Queens' win over Osun Babe while Naija Ratels defeated Pacesetter by a lone goal in Abuja to record their first win of the season.

MAILAFIYA PEACE AND UNITY FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT 2025.

It was a thug of war between Greater Tomorrow of Lafia and FC Matawalle of Doma at the Government Secondary School Daddare on Friday 26 December 2025.

An evening of talent display for the players and fans alike as they witness yet another shocker in the grassroots competition, lone strike in the second minute by Ike Nyom for FC Matawalle prove to be decisive of the Mailafiya Peace and Unity Football Tournament 2025.

The game started with attacks and counter attacks from both side but with high hope and expectations on Greater Tomorrow considering their strength and records in the championship as 2020 winners, little did fans know, the small tag Matawalle guys have another plan to escape with the coveted trophy to Doma, the match ended 1-nil with the goal marking the fastest in the 9 year old championship.

After 90 minutes of the encounter, FC Matawalle in their second appearance took home the coveted trophy and a prize of 1.3 million naira, while Greater Tomorrow settled for 1 million naira as runners up, Jarmai United and Adudu Best finished third and fourth with prize of 700,000 naira and 400,000 naira respectively.

The tournament, which kicked off in October 2025, featured 32 teams from Southern Nasarawa State. Organizer Amb. Mailafiya Yakubu Agabi stated that the event aimed to discover local talent and announced plans to commence the 10th edition soon.

Dignitaries from various walks of life, including Sangarin Daddare attended the event to witness the thrilling showdown.

Other individual awards include best goalkeeper and highest goal scorer were issued to the deserving players.

NYG 2025 NORTH CENTRAL ZONAL QUALIFIERS

Team Nasarawa has made a remarkable showing in the National Youth Games (NYG) 2025 North Central Zonal qualifiers in Kwara State.

The team secured four of the ten tickets up for team events in the zonal eliminations that was held in Kwara State between 15 to 18th August 2025 at the Kwara State stadium, Ilorin.

Team Nasarawa qualified for Male and Female Hockey, Female Volleyball and returned to Male Football after years of absence with an intense competition against other north central states of Plateau, Kogi, Kwara, Niger who availed themselves for the qualifiers.

The team couldn't pick any slot in Male Handball, Male and Female Basketball after loosing all their matches during the qualifiers.

Nasarawa would be represented in the 9th edition of the National Youth Games games 2025 to be hosted in Asaba, Delta State between 26 August to 9 September 2025.

With these qualifications, team Nasarawa is set to make statement in the NYG 2025 national championship in Delta.

The team's performance, skills, and fans are eagerly awaiting their participation in the national event.

The contingent has since returns to Lafia to start the preparation for the journey to South-South region of the country for 9th National Youth Games.

5th EDITION FEDUGAM GAMES KICK-OFF WITH 22 AGENCIES IN LAFIA.

The agencies under the Federal Ministry of Education are set to battle for honors as the 5th Fedugam Sector Games Kicks Off in Lafia, Tuesday.

The 5th edition was declared open by the Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa at the Lafia City Stadium, the Federal Education Sector Games return to Lafia after hosting the 2nd edition in 2017.

While declaring the event open the Minister who was represented by the vice chancellor Federal University Lafia, Professor Shehu Abdulrahman said, Fedugam is an avenue for promotion of unity among agencies under the Federal Ministry of Education just as he emphasized the importance of exercise for the staffs to achieve an optimal productivity while in service.

This edition of the games will feature 22 agencies including, NECO, JAMB, TETFUND, NABTEB, NTI among others aim to promote unity, physical fitness, and inter-agency collaboration.

Teams are expected to compete fiercely in different sports such as Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton and Football showcasing their skills and teamwork between 5-10 August 2025.

The chairman of the Organising Committee Dr. Saeed Yusuf appreciate the host State for providing a conducive environment for the event just as he is optimistic the investment in sports infrastructure and facilities in the state will enhance the overall experience of the participants.

Dr. Saeed warned against fielding mercenaries, emphasizing that only bonafide staff of participating agencies will be allowed to participate.

This move aims to ensure fair play and promote the spirit of sportsmanship among education sector workers, recall that Bauchi State hosted the 2024 edition.

The 5th edition of the Fedugam promises to be an exciting and memorable event, fostering teamwork and camaraderie among the participants.

AHLAN/GUSAU 2025 PRESEASON FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT KICKOFF IN LAFIA, AIMING AT BECOME A NATIONWIDE PROJECT.

Governor Abdullah Sule's passion for sports has again earned him recognition as a sport loving leader with passion for grassroots sports development.

This assertion were echoed during the opening ceremony of the fourth edition of Gusau/Ahlan preseason football tournament at the Lafia city stadium Friday.

The tournament in it's fourth season will run for two weeks starting from Friday August, 1st. 2025 in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

Speaking to media, sponsor of the event Alhaji Sharif Ahlan said the event is one of the biggest preseason football tournament in Northern Nigeria with a mission to grow wings beyond the North hence the reason for moving the tournament to be hosted in different states of Nigeria.

"As you can see, we have teams participating from the Southern part of the country too, we started from Kano and today Nasarawa is hosting, we are targeting at covering the whole of Nigeria"

Appreciating Nasarawa State Government for accepting to host the 2025 edition, the Kano born sport administrator said Governor Sule has distinguishes himself among his peers in terms of sport development at the grassroots by providing all the necessary logistics for the tournament.

Recall, Ahlan preseason football tournament's 1st edition was held in Kano State then move to Bauchi in it 2nd season while Jos in plateau State hosted the last edition.

Sixteen teams divided in 4 groups of four are participating in this edition just as Nasarawa United defeated Si14 five goals to nothing in the curtain raiser at the Lafia Stadium.

As part of Governor Sule's promise to build stadia across three geo-political zones of the State, Wamba Local Government is set to take the first shot.

Recall that Governor Abdullahi Sule said before the expiration of his tenure, every political zone of the state will benefit from, at least, one mini sports stadium.

True to the Governor's earlier statement, the Honourable Commissioner, Kwanta Yakubu, on Wednesday, led a high-powered government delegation on a site-inspection in Wamba.

Accompanying the Commissioner on the visit were contractors from Abuja and the State Ministry of Works.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Dr. Ibrahim Adamu Alhassan, the Ministry's Directors and other stakeholders in the Organization were received at the Palace of Oriye Rindre, Justice Lawal Musa Nagogo.

The First Class Ruler welcomed the entourage to his palace and thanked the Commissioner for making Wamba the pilot local government area for the project, noting that he has set up a committee that would help in choosing a befitting location for the proposed stadium construction.

Earlier, Hon. Kwanta informed the Royal Father of Governor Sule's commitment in developing sports, saying that such project would serve as a platform to nurture talents from the nooks and crannies of the state, just as the royal father showered his blessings on the team as they set for the search of the project site.

At the local government secretariat, the council Chairman, Hon. Ezekiel Musa Jagga said the choice of Wamba is not a mistake but a reflection of the abundant talent in the locality as he urged the entourage to consider proximity during the selection process.

After visiting two different sites in Wamba town, the delegation settled for the Ungo-Wayyo road site.

AMAZONS URGE TO WIN ANGELS IN THE EPIC FINAL

Nasarawa Amazons Football Club of Lafia continued their dominating form in the current 2024/2025 women football season in Nigeria.

Despite loosing the ticket to the fifth Africa women champions league, the Lafia landladies are at the verge of clinching the president cup tittle, trophy they last won in 2019.

The amazons defeated Edo Queens Two-Nil in one of the semi final games played on Saturday 24th May 2025 at the Prince Abubakar Audu University Field, Ayingba.

Recall, Amazons narrowly lost the women champions league ticket finishing second to Bayelsa Queens in the super six tournament held Ogun State..

"The focus now, is to go all out win the tittle and make our fans happy, we have already forgotten what happens in the super six and is time to improve our CVs by winning the president cup" Said Christopher Danjuma, Nasarawa Amazons Head Coach.

Nasarawa Amazons would have to confront the defending champions of the president cup, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt who defeated Ibom Angels One-Nil in the second semis in Aba to reach the final.

In a related development, Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Nasarawa State Chapter has congratulated the Nasarawa Amazons for reaching the final of this year's president cup saying "It's a feet well deserved"

Miners Record First Win In Gombe...

As the 2024/2025 season gradually wine down, Nasarawa United picks maximum points against Heartland at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe State.

The only goal scored in the 44th minutes by Anas Yusuf taking his goal tally to 16 and topping the Npfl goal chart in the ongoing campaign.

Recall Nasarawa United were ban from playing at the Lafia City Stadium to Pantami Stadium in Gombe after matchday 33 against plateau United following breach of Npfl rules by some miner's fans.

With the win, Nasarawa United have 46 points, winning 12, draw 10 and looses 13 matches from the 35 games and sit 13th on the log.

Remos Stars emerged champions of the current npfl season after defeating Niger Tornadoes by a lone goal on Sunday accumulating 68th points from 35 matches closely followed by Rivers United in second place with 58 points.

Remo Stars became the first privately owned club to win Npfl tittle since Udoji United achieve the feat in 1996 and the first South west club to win the tittle since the defunct Julius Barger won it 20 years ago.
