Raintown Film Festival Raintown Film Festival is held annually in Taiping Perak (northern Malaysia), a city recognized as one of the Best Cities to Live In in 2019.

Our goal is to create a platform for Taiping residents, as well as visitors from other states and countries, to better understand the local history, culture, and arts through film events. Alee Isa is a copywriter and digital marketer with a background in film. With a deep-rooted love for cinema, she continues to follow films religiously, recognising the parallel between brand marketing and filmmaking โ€“ the art of finding the right story for the right audience.

Holding a Master's in Film Studies from the University of Kent UK, her academic expertise is evident in her thesis, โ€œMurder, Mysticism and Modern Nusantara: Generic Hybridity and its Cultural Context in the Cinema of Dain Said."

Currently, Alee channels her "film head" into her role at ANAABUโ„ข, a Malaysian fashion brand where she meticulously writes campaign stories for collections and spearheads original contents such as "We Are All Nomads At Heart," a one-off podcast where she's interviewed figures like Shi Han of Human Edition and Ahmad Faris from TAPAUtv, and , an editorial series showcasing creative professionals like filmmaker Jared Lee and Pamela Tan of Pohsin Studio, who resonate the lifestyle of the ANAABUโ„ข community.

Beyond her marketing role, Alee is also an aspiring moderator, having hosted retrospective short film screenings for Adam Zainal and participating in Film Forum: Reel Talk, where she conversed with director Nik Amir (Imaginur) and SIAR founder Ali Agung.

Her passion for cinema remains vibrant; she's an avid goer of independent screening venues like Wayang Budiman, Pasar Seni Picture Screening, Taman Desa Screening Club, and various film festivals, regularly sharing her insights through her personal social media platform and short reviews on Letterboxd.

Alee's directing credits include multiple short films, and she's notably recognised for her work on the TAPAUtv original web series, "Kau Memang Special Tapi Dia Double Cheese." In 2024, she marked her filmmaking comeback by directing her latest short film, "The Price I Pay For Hurting God's Favourite," currently in its final stages before festival submissions.

Born in Taiping, Malaysia, Hong Hu is a filmmaker and artist based in Singapore. He is one-half of Studio 1914, a film and art practice working across Southeast Asia, where he collaborates with Adzlynn on research-led films that engage Southeast Asian identities and folktales, uncovering hidden histories and perspectives that continue to shape how people live and think today.

Working primarily with moving images, his films often extend into site-specific installations, allowing intangible narratives to inhabit physical space. His projects frequently emerge through close collaborations with artists and researchers across the region, including indigenous artist-researcher Dr Kendy Mitot, filmmaker Joey Lee, musician and soundscape designer Gardika Gigih, and archivists Hardiwan Prayogo and Sora Gia.

Selected works include MADU (2023), RATU (2024), and CIRCLE BETWEEN REALMS (2025), exhibited at the National Museum of Singapore, the Di-Antara Ruang exhibition in Yogyakarta, and ILHAM Art Show 2025. His recent films, BAKAWALI: FORBIDDEN GARDEN and EVERYDAY GARDEN (2026), premiered during Singapore Art Week at RawGround as a two-channel installation with quadraphonic sound, extending his ongoing exploration of nature-led narratives in Nusantara folktales initiated during the Rimbun Dahan Southeast Asian Arts Residency.

At the heart of his practice is a sustained desire to reconcile contemporary life with the ecological wisdom rooted within the region, reflecting on folktales and unsettled histories as living sources of guidance.

As a film festival run by Malaysian filmmakers, we believe that cinema is an effective medium to convey stories of our roots, including personal stories, perspectives, and ideas to the public.

There are so many stories waiting to be discovered in Malaysia, as well as stories within yourself. Through your own observation, there is always a personal intention behind every film that is made.

We are excited to receive your short films that reflect this yearโ€™s theme โ€œAfter The Rainโ€. To demonstrate this, we created a short clip inspired by a common experience - one of our team members getting caught in the rain while riding a motorbike. From that moment came the beginning of a story about what happens after the rain.
