Meet our Lokal Maker : Chai Leaf 🍵🍃🌺

Chai Leaf is an Artisan Spiced Tea brand founded by Gayithree, who comes from an IT background and is a chai curator at heart. The name “Chai” comes from Hindi, meaning milk tea (a nod to her roots). For Gayithree, chai is more than a drink , it’s a way to bring people together. She believes that having tea or coffee daily is deeply woven into Malaysian culture, and every cup she makes is an invitation to slow down and connect.

Her process starts from the ground up: sourcing quality tea leaves, curating her own blends, and roasting her own spices to create a fragrant, comforting cup. She never compromises on quality, always using fresh milk and sugar, never condensed milk. It’s this dedication that’s built her a loyal community who return not just for the chai, but for the warmth and connection she brews into every cup.

Meet our Lokal Maker : Ce Chad 🍞🌺

Ce Chad is a sourdough and pastry café founded by Chadwick, a Malaysia-based chef, baker, lecturer and instructor. The name combines “Chad” from his name with “Ce”, representing a working space. According to Chad, when you walk into his café, you get to enjoy things made by him. As the youngest son in his family, Chad took on the responsibility of caring for his father, who suffered a severe stroke, and his diabetic mother. His journey from a home-based venture to pop-ups and eventually a small café was largely driven by his determination to care for his family and create a legacy of his own.

Chad’s curious and exploratory nature eventually led him to sourdough bread-making. From the early stages, he has always believed in experimenting and thoroughly researching his ingredients before presenting them to his customers. For Chad, bread is more than just bread — every crust and layer tells a story. He often engages with people to understand their preferences and create flavours they truly enjoy. Craft Affair is very proud to present Chad’s thoughts and viewpoints.

Meet our Lokal Makers: Mybookbudz 📚🌺

Mybookbudz — the name itself derives from [My = Malaysia], [Book = books, where their business began], [Budz = slang term for buddy/friend]. Mybookbudz was started by mother-daughter duo Dr Lynne Low and Louisa Marie Low, who ran a kindergarten before their business blossomed. Dr Lynne, a British woman, moved to Malaysia after marrying her Malaysian husband. Together they had three kids, including their eldest daughter, Louisa.

Dr Lynne, who was already skilled in stitching and embroidery, makes sure their products always have clean stitches. Meanwhile, Louisa makes sure to thoroughly research and test the fabric, so they can always present the best quality product to their customers. Their zero-tolerance policy for poor-quality output is one of the many reasons they have repeat and loyal customers. Craft Affair is very proud to present their thoughts and viewpoints.
