This historic milestone will take place at the Dakar Expo Center (DEX) in Senegal, where 48 outstanding young athletes will compete across four medal events:

The First International Taijiquan Day (Tai Chi Day) will be observed worldwide on 21 March 2026 (Saturday). The day was officially declared by UNESCO on 5 November 2025 and adopted at the 43rd UNESCO General Conference.

This historic recognition marks the first time a martial art has been honored with an international day within the United Nations system, highlighting Taijiquan as a treasured cultural heritage and a shared practice that promotes health, harmony and cultural dialogue among nations.

As a traditional martial art deeply rooted in Chinese philosophy, Taijiquan has long served as a bridge connecting cultures and communities, particularly across the China–ASEAN region, where martial arts exchanges continue to foster friendship, mutual respect and people-to-people connectivity.
